Protests target Hungary state TV

Protesters have tried to storm Hungary's state TV station after Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany admitted that his party had lied to win an election. Police used teargas to disperse the demonstrators in the capital Budapest.

Mr Gyurcsany's admission came after Hungarian radio played a tape of a meeting he had with his Socialist MPs a few weeks after the election in April.

Thousands gathered outside parliament on Sunday calling for Mr Gyurcsany to resign, but he has refused.

In the US socialists are too worried about being caught lying so even in private they lie to each other. It makes the lie seem more real.

Geeze. Nobody gets this worked up when politicians in this country get elected. Lying is assumed.

...but because the country's government is facing serious financial crisis. There's no way to raise enough money for the government. They ran out of tricks. They ran out of money. They ran out of plans and ideas.

THIS is the true "pot of gold" at the end of the socialist's Utopian rainbow. When the "we'll give everybody a freebie, and make somebody else, richer guys, pay for it" plan runs into "the rich guys have all left Dodge" reality. Push the mess over the edge with a further increase in benefits for the "working class", whose productivity continues to decline, and Whallah!, you get this debacle.

Some people seem to have messed with the BBC website's front page. The Hungary article is in a top corner, and the bulk of the page is a photo gallery of the protests.

(They've fixed it now).

More socialists who think "the ends justify the means."

<sarc> After all, they won the election so it must have been worth it.</sarc>

Shep (Fox News) just said that the TV station was now on fire.

It scares me that Americans have become so squeemish that we can't even throw a "tea party" in order to get the attention of the gov't over the border and our newly found treaty with Al Queida in our Constitution......

Updated news of Monday night's Budapest rioting

By: CaboodleNews
2006-09-19 12:21:00

As the areas in front of parliament and the state television offices return to normal after last night's unrest, fresh details of the rioting are emerging. This page will be updated throughout the day.

• The damage caused to television headquarters is estimated to be in the tens of millions of forints (over €100,000). More than 50 people, including several police officers, were hospitalized. A total of 102 police officers were injured, two of them seriously, and one is in critical condition. More than 150 people were injured in total.

• The headquarters of Hungarian television have been evacuated. Only employees summoned by their employers can enter the building.

• Eight rioters had been taken into custody by 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. The police did not wish to say if there were any familiar faces, or known "football hooligans," among them.

• Rioters knocked the five-pointed star off the Soviet memorial on Szabadság tér and replaced it with a Hungarian flag during the rioting.

• Political scientist Gábor Török and two leading politicians were trapped in the MTV building during the riot. Török said that he, Ferenc Juhász, assistant leader of the governing Socialist Party, and Tibor Navrasics, head of the parliamentary faction of opposition leader Fidesz, did not receive any assistance from the police. Senior state television staff showed them to a room where they could hide with the lights turned off to prevent rioters from finding them. They later called the police and were told they would have to make their own way out . "Ferenc Juhász, Tibor Navrasics and I escaped the building. Two of Hungary's leading politicians made their way through the rioters without any security, and anything could have happened to them. I think what happened last night is unbelievable," Török said.

• Rioters are reported to be planning another protest rally today on Margit Bridge.

• President László Sólyom called Justice Minister József Petrétei and leading police officers to his office on Tuesday. He will gather information about the current situation then decide on the action to be taken.

• Justice Minister József Petrétei offered to resign on Tuesday morning. Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány did not accept.

The prime minister was not caught. He came forward to confess.

He confessed after
the tape of his speech was leaked.

You'd think.
This guy's a real piece of work.
He essentially said in response to his words on the leaked taped "yeah, well...nobody's perfect".
