From what little I know, Algerian terrorist groups seem partial to using initials. Think they have gone through the alphabet in the last 50 years so GAM could well be one of them. :o)

I'd thought it had a catchier name, something like the Salafist Group for Combat and Preaching, and went by initials GSCD (for Groupe Salafiste de Combat et Da'wa, or something like that). Or at least that's the one AQ announced had joined up.
