By the Government of Japan, in response to North Korea's threat earlier today to treat 'severe sanctions' as a defacto 'declaration of war'.

Thank you for your concern. I would suspect (something like) hijacking a Japanese airliner on a domestic route, taking it over, killing the pilot and flight attendants, telling the terrified Japanese on board to sit down and shut up, and then taking the aircraft towards one of the nuclear power plants on the Western Coast, and crashing the A/L into it.

They would be yelling "Wuidehanryongdoja KimJong il dongji, Manse!" all the way it would seem--as impassioned as an "Allah Ahkbar!" Not out of the question.

I know of no air marshal system onboard Japanese aircraft and it's anybody's guess how soon the Air Self Defense Forces could scramble.

The Japanese are essentially not that good at crisis management, something big and entirely unexpected, which is very worrisome.

You said -- "Everything I've read has been about preventing Japan's need for their own nuclear arsenal."

Do you really think the U.S. would "encourage" or even "allow" Japan to have (even) the *first bomb* in a nuclear arsenal?

The U.S. has a lot more influence over Japan than they do over North Korea. I don't think that would ever happen (just from the U.S. side of things...).

Do you think a European country will side with Iran? Which one? Seems Russia's a swing - they'll probably go with us...

... and with Big Ole' China breathing down Japan's neck, meantime. What you have speculated is entirely possible. "Old" Japan would be pulling together and taking this threat very seriously; do you happen to know how "new" Japan is taking the threat? New Japan, meaning, the "everything is Rock 'n' Roll" Japan? What is the mood of the "everyday" people; and not those in official capacity, pls?

I think China's military advancement will eventually force a nuclear deterrent (they're aggressively stealing US secrets and have built two Aegis destroyers) and the US will eventually approve of Japan acquiring a nuke if not sooner because of N.Korea.

How in the world could you devise an overall strategy (or doctrine) that could coherently address all the chaos that's going on now?

Regime change in a handful of places, the old-fashioned way.

Ummmm, could be wrong on that "Russia thing" --

Monday, Rush Limbaugh interviewed me on Epicenter for the November issue of The Limbaugh Letter. For about 45 minutes, we discused how since taking office in 2000, former KGB chief-turned Russian President Vladimir Putin has built strong personal, political and military ties to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il. Putin has sold Iran and North Korea billions of dollars worth of arms and even nuclear technology. He is arming America's worst enemies for war, and in so doing, Russia has joined the "Axis of Evil." Yet on this critical issue, official Washington seems to be in a true state of denial.

Good question...I'm not so sure Russia will side with us...the rapid expansion of NATO eastward has Russia disturbed...also notice how fussy they've been with Georgia the last two weeks. As far as European countries, I'm sure massive bribery like the "oil for food" scandal is happening even as we type.

** Good question...I would think Chavez will shut all supply to US once we engage Iran. Wouldn't surprise me if there are Hezbollah terrorists stationed in Cuba due to Chavez's work with the Iranian nut. Syria will get involved.**

From what I understand, both China and Russia have agreements with Iran to protect it. Therefore, if we attack Iran, we could be looking at a fight with both China and Russia.

If the truth were know, I wouldn't be surprised if NK is behaving as a puppet of China. Clinton not only helped North Korea to build nukes, but also sold highly advanced computer technology to China(not to mention technology that was stolen from Los Alamos and etc). That technology enabled China to point their long range nukes at our cities and God only knows what else.

We could easily see nukes flying around the globe from several directions, if we get into a battle with either North Korea or Iran. Prayers for President Bush to sort out this mess!!!
