Rush Limbaugh's opinion means nothing to me, since he was QUITE happy to get all of those interviews with Cheney. He's just trying to divert attention from his ham-handed treatment of Michael J. Fox, which probably cost us Jim Talent's seat in Missouri, if not some other seats where there were close races. Rush may not be on the ballot, but he is the face of conservatism to a lot of people, especially moderates, and his tacky behavior cost us votes.

Laura Ingraham has been griping about Bush since the Harriet Miers nomination, and I don't value her opinion either.

So if you are taking your cues from those two I suggest you re-think your position.

And now I am out of here for a while...my husband needs the computer.

"If our candidates stick to our party & President without "distancing" themselves, the results would have been different."

I agree w you Anita. Pelosi had the Dims corraled and most did not dare speak out (except for a few 'botched' jokes and misstatements by Dean - which everyone expects).
Not only did the Pres have the media and Dims and foreigners spinning against him on the WOT (including Iraq), there were those that are supposed Pubbies that did him NO favors - McLame, VP Lindsey Graham, Pat B, et al, and, of course, those at the Weakley Standard with Kristol (I want McLame to be Pres) one of the worst. Other supposed 'conservatives' such as blathering Savage didn't help either. And, the 'leaders' in Congress were not out there selling our message - - I'm glad Hastert and Frist are stepping down/leaving their leadership roles.

We need some fresh faces in leadership who will be on top of selling our message and calling the Dims on untruths, bad policies, etc. I pinged some of you to a thread on Alexander being in leadership, with Lott thinking of running, etoo. We need to try to stop this!
IMHO having Lamar or Trent as the face of the Pubbies in the Senate would be a disaster! We need Sessions, Cornyn, Kyl, Coburn or Chambliss to be out there as the face of the Pubbies in the Senate telling our message.

In the House Pence or Shadegg would be great.

They need to get over themselves about seniority and leadership and do what's best for the party and the American people.

Alexander says he'll be whip

Sen. Trent Lott is being coy about whether he'll run for minority whip in the GOP leadership elections slated for Wednesday. But while Lott plays his cards close to his vest, his presumptive rival, Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., has already declared himself the winner.

I do see your points; you both see the DBM as only part of the problem, and I agree there is a lot more to our loss (more failure to prevail) then them alone.

But do note that this thread has been, over all these years, devoted to covering them--the DBM. We need a war of many fronts, selecting better generals to lead our troops, and choosing our battles carefully and where we're most likely to win.

One of these battles is against the entrenched "liberalism/pro one political party/movement over another/dislike of the other party" that is today's media. It is to this I'm going to focus my efforts, pitifully small though they may be.

Great inspiring post! Thank you Alas !
We are not whiners....the MSM is a 24-7 commercial for the Dems and an attack hit machine to the Repubs.

How can any reasonable citizen withstand this?

We have our work cut out for us.

Can't dispute many of your reasons for voting indy...just glad it was a moot point in Delawre.

Most of our deadwood has been retired or will step out of leadership. Rush did carry water. It is time for conservative leaders who will challenge the libs and the media every damn day! We had no one leading the fight, which makes new congressional leadership so important.

On the other side of the aisle, they elected as many as 60 blue dog Dems who are either pro-military, ex-GOP, ex-military, pro-life, and/or pro-gun

Evidently lalapelosi demanding straight party line votes is good for American but republicans voting straight party line for republicans is a bad thing?

I have heard that same whine from others in the media. Suddenly straight party line voting is un-American if it's for republicans???????????????

Why did we lose? Depends on who "we" is, Kimosabe. The ground rules didn't change, the players didn't change. The media was the same as always. It appears that "we" just didn't try hard enough to win this time.

The Republicans also set this up a long time ago, by not continuing to act like Republicans. Most disappointing of all was George W. Bush, who seems to have made a deal to get rid of Don Rumsfeld AFTER the election, when it was too late to affect voter reactions. What a horrible decision that was.

And I would prefer that the President had stuck with Mr. Rumsfeld, who has performed well under adverse conditions and remained loyal. If GW Bush wanted to let Mr. Rumsfeld take the blame for Iraq, he should have done it before the election.

Now, instead, we have lost the services of a good man, and we get a Democrat Senate and House. If this was planned, Karl Rove should stick to hurricane machines.

A close look at Missouri voting results will show you that he actually did cost us that race. That's all I am going to say right now.

Brent Bozell and the Media Research Center do an oustanding job of reporting on media bias. If you haven't signed up for their emails every day you might want to sign on.....keeping in mind that you must keep your blood pressure meds at the ready.

Harry Reid has far more serious ethical problems

Brilliant catch here anita, when the impeachment talk against GW starts, and they won't be able to help themselves have no question, we need to go after their leaders twice as hard as they do ours. It's all they understand.

Anything else, like getting along, is seen as weakness.

Just now on Fox, back to back, they had a liberal explaining how conservative Pelosi, Ried and Rangel really are.

Speaking of Rangel, his recent insulting of the people of Missisippi alone would have cost him his chairmanship, if his party is R instaed of D.

I live in Missouri and it was NOT Rush's treatment of Fox that cost conservatives anything!!!! Even the promoters of this cloning bill have stated they did NOT expect to have the opposition they ended up having.

Liberals LIE to get elected and truly amazing how everybody is scarfing up Mccaskillls claim that Rush helped her get elected. POPPYCOCK!!!!

What Rush did in this state was give publicity to what was at stake, people putting their faith in government to SAVE them.

There was a minimum wage amendment on the ballot which gave incentive for UNIONs to get out their vote. I have read that religious voters switched their vote to the liberals, and that is NOT Rush's fault.

Fox News Channel Sunday programming is indistinguishable from any other network. It is consistently liberal.

We, as conservatives, may never have the opportunity we had after the 2004 election.

Instead of standing with our moderate/conservative coalition, everyone went off on a tangent. Every talking head found something to bash Bush on, suddenly he wasn't conservative enough on every issue for some conservatives.

There were plenty of warnings on FR about what the consequence of such an approach would have. Oh well...we were in a minority for forty years and the nation survived.
