!!!!!!IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!!!

I will not point fingers at anyone on our side for our loss on Tuesday, because I really don’t think we are to blame. I thought we would do better, frankly, but it appears we just couldn't get it over the goal line before time ran out. In many cases, the victory/defeat line was only a few thousand votes apart. It’s not like we got a thumping, thrashing, or butt-kick. The only thing is how it will effect our country. That has a lot of us concerned more than how it happened.

In any case, you know who I blame…The drive by media. Their bias has been well documented on this thread. My wife and I were talking about it on the drive home from work. Neither of us could think of a way--beyond what we're doing (on this thread, for example)--to counter the media. We just have to keep doing what we’ve been doing for 8 years—only harder!!!

So folks, here is my challenge for the Sunday Morning thread for the next two years:

We need to be reporters on the reporters. We need to document their lies, distortions, smears, half-truths and omissions. We need to howl in their faces, and call them on it each and every time.

Will you join me?

I’m going to find a comprehensive media email list (someone has compiled and posted it before) to start sending out emails to the Sunday screaming faces with word-for-word transcriptions of what they said, and why it is biased. In the past I’ve sat here and typed about Tim Russert’s biased, hunched-over-questioning; this time I’m going to tell HIM about it. Timmy, you are on notice! Every frown, every hunch, every pudgy-fingered grasping your talking points memo while you interrogate Republicans will be documented and you will be called on it!!!!

(Insert John Belushi scream and flips out of chair, papers flying)

A columnist in a local paper was dismayed that a county south of us voted Repub for several offices. He made the accusation that they must have voted straight party line, and that they would have voted for Hitler or Mark Foley if they were on the ballot. I started working on a reply to this "columnist"...

Thanks AB & Good Morning to EveryOne!

Certainly I would agree with you, AB. I am really tired of people throwing stones at WH & the President. If anyone is to be blamed, it 's those so-called-conservatives who readily threw stones at the President & the party to promote their books & the Madrassa Media.

I would agree with MNJohnie said [elsewhere on this forum] - some people angry at WH as they got only 70% only ending up losing 100% now.

I think Samantha pointed out, McCain's CFR ended up a big blunder & loser and he should be punished for that. Democrats freemedia behaved like Pakistan's Madrassas indoctrinating bogus lies on the people 24 hours a day.

A most excellent post, Alas Babylon! You have focused on the most important issue, indeed. For if we don't have the mainstream media accurately reporting both parties, and reporting the good and the bad about our nation's events, we truly don't have a free press afterall.

Many more thoughts on the media. I despise the bastards. Despite high-minded conservative thought that says "the media is the media" and we have to live with it, I say BS.

First we demand congressional leaders who will challenge the drive-bys every damn day. Tony Snow is as close as we came last cycle. Rush and Co. have indeed carried their water for years and its time for them stand up.

Our candidates defenses were pathetic, granted, but Old Media cost us. The WaPo even admitted it, after 13 days of macaca stories.

the good news; some of our weakest links were exposed and eliminated and now the more aggressive, more conservative leadership may find its way to the leadership positions.

Thanks for the thread today and as usual your words of wisdom. I think we need to answer the question of why we lost last Tuesday.

Personally, I think we here at the New Media were out gunned by the old/drive-by media. They literally let a 6 year contract, mob style, on GWB and finally it was fulfilled.

It's a credit to the adm that they held the msm off for 6 years on the constant haranguing, distorting, lying spinning of every news story that came along while ignoring anything positive about the WOT. They used only stories that could be turned against the adm.

This is a totally unprecedented hit job on any adm in IMHO. If nothing else, the "drivers by" exposed who they really are in no uncertain terms this time around. Bottom line is that next time we need to be in charge and as AB said above we need to counter them at every corner.

Every time they spin, tell a lie or re- invent the truth we nee to be right there with an antidote. I would love to hear other opinions of why we lost Tuesday, if we get enough reasons we will win in 08 for sure.

The talking shows and the news programs were the worst I have ever seen, and I have been watching political news since the 60's.

However, should we get rid of all of them tomorrow, we still would have a problem, because liberalism controls academia, Hollywood, the music industry, and a fair chunk of the internet.

It is very hard to convince non-news people that your position is correct, when they know nothing of foreign affairs but their three favorite movie stars all trash Bush in every interview. About the only Republican immune from this is Arnold Schwartzenegger, because he got mega-famous before people found out he was a Republican.

AB, I've been monitoring the local Fox channel here in the Tampa area,
and have been for a couple of years. They have been blatantly
biased since before Jeb won reelection against Bill McBribe. This
election cycle they were orgasmic over Davis the dem running
against Charlie Crist.

I'll focus on this bunch. It will be a pleasure to call
them on their outrageous behavior even to a greater
degree than I have.

Very good point AB!
We complain to each other about media bias, and preach to the choir. It's time to rub their own noses in it.
These guys claim to be unbiased. If enough of us point out to them their biases, en masse, they, at least, will feel guilty claiming to be balanced.

Good morning everyone!

I think (like most) that there were several things to blame for our loss, but I agree w you AB, it was not a thumping (as many in the DBM and others are claiming) and so agree about the invludence of the DBM.

I posted an article yesterday about the DBM. If you all haven't seen it, you may want to check this out:

With all due respect....

I am not going to point my fingers at the drive-by media for this most recent wipe out of Republicans across the board. I WILL allow that they have a bias and it's evident.

But just last week mighty Rush Limbaugh himself admitted he'd been carrying the water for lackluster Republicans. They have a bias, obviously, and with the Lamestream it's generally liberal. What's the bigger crime is the lie they've foisted on us that they are "impartial" and above the fray. Rush Limbaugh is biased and we know it.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. I say let the biases be known up front and let the reader/listener/watcher decide. If you're saying we should keep catching them on their bias instead of the impartiality they claim to own, I agree completely.

That being said, I have given a great amount of thought to last Tuesday's rout, as I daresay most of us have.

I was a voter who expressed her disdain and disillusionment for the Republican party last Tuesday although my modest protest affected exactly no one. Still I will count myself amongst the great unwashed in that we had a pubbie candidate for Senator here in the swamps of Delaware but I did not vote for him. Instead I voted for a write-in candidate, a lovely Christian woman who'd initially sought the pub nomination but was smacked down by the Delaware Republican party which so resembles Joe Biden's party here in the First state.

Understand that I knew that Tom Carper was going to win as Senator, hands down. His nominated pub opponent, one Jan Ting, was lackluster, uninspiring and he refused to take a stand on abortion. So I wrote in the name of his independent opponent just because I wanted to send a message to Delaware's pub party.

Thus counting myself as one of the Repub disaffected, let me state why. Like Rush and Laura et al have been saying all last week, these Repubs have failed to endorse conservative values and I'm tired of it.

They've gerrymandered themselves into power and they've learned via that entrenched power to deal with the Democrats in so many ways directly opposite to conservative ideals.

In the past two years I've seen Denny Hastert stand with William Jefferson, D-Louisiana in front of my lying eyeballs. I've seen free speech frittered away in the guise of campaign speech that the gerrymandered not risk their seat for citizen rhetoric.

I've watched a major prescription medicare plan passed that no one really likes and I've watched Ted Kennedy smile as he enjoyed the fame of helping pass even more MAJOR federal intrusion into education.

I've learned that Foley was a homosexual who used the Congressional Page pool as his own male partner fishing hole and now I learn that the head of the RNC is also a homosexual. Which I wouldn't have a problem with except I have some major concerns about family values and at the very least I think some truth is deemed here.

I've watched the pubbies sit back and let the screaming hyenas blame the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT for Katrinia failures and not one dared to state firmly that America is a country of rugged individuals who should FIRST depend on themselves.

Not once did a major pubbie dispute the Lamestream mantra that Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction and this became a truth simply because the pubs allowed it to be said so often that it became the truth.

I've watched that herd of Republican cats in the Senate look out for their own fine selves in the form of John McCain and others who formed a unit to fight against Conservative judges when THIS was a major concern of conservatives accross the country.

I've seen NO action taken to privatize at least a portion of Social Security even though these guys HAD the majority but hey, they wanted that AARP vote and their own re-election took precidence over my silly concerns.

They frittered away their leadership for their own personal gain and THAT is why I felt so disenfranchised that I wrote in a candidate this past election day rather than vote for yet another mealy-mouthed Republican that they chose for me.

I've got plenty more. I'm not done yet.

The Clinton years: they invite Biden, Schumer and McCain on these shows.
The Bush years with Republicans in charge: they invite Biden, Schumer and McCain on these shows.
The Bush years with Dems in charge: they invite Biden, Schumer and McCain on these shows.

You'd think they want to talk to the people actually IN CHARGE instead of just their Dem friends, but the sentence in the middle above proves that wrong.

Great inspiring post! Thank you Alas !
We are not whiners....the MSM is a 24-7 commercial for the Dems and an attack hit machine to the Repubs.

How can any reasonable citizen withstand this?

We have our work cut out for us.
