That's what I think, temporary. Sounds good in the meantime, 'Martinez' 'and Republican Party Chief' in the DBM.

I guess the GOP hasn't decided that losing the mid-terms was enough. I think there is a big difference between GOP elites in Washington and the bugs out here in America. Maybe McCain likes this Martinez idea. I'm kind of believing it will be awhile before we win again. I told myself I would take a time out from posting for awhile...but here I am.

We are doing good now with our defense since Bob Stoops has gotten more involved. It has been a tough year with the quarterback getting kicked off, and Adrian Peterson going down and then his backup going down. Bob has done one of his best coaching jobs this year ever and with Josh Heupel back coaching quarterbacks Paul Thompson is looking better and better. We have one of the youngest if not the youngest team in the NCAA D-1. We have 11 seniors graduating this year. ESPN is saying that with us losing so many players and most of our players being Freshman and Sophomores, we are going to be really good next year.

Mike Stoops is going to be a good coach but Bob is still better as an overall coach IMHO. I personally wouldn't trade Mike for Bob.

I'm from NH. I'm more riled up about this election than most. This guy is 2x the conservative than my 2 congressmen who got booted were. Bass and Bradley were 2 good congressmen. I think the republicans need to show that conservatives are just white guys. Steele would've been a good choice but more Hispanics vote republican. This has nothing to do with immigration. You wanted a conservative guy you got one. Hey they didn't give Chafee or McCain the job did they?

"This has nothing to do with his voting record.
Most of the people here have a problem with his surname."

I guess that's why many here would like to see Steele take the position. We're all racists. /S

Folks, this is a total takeover of the party apparatus by Mitch McConnell and makes McConnell the de facto head of the Republican Party. This is a GOOD thing! Mel Martinez will be a figurehead; the real power at the RNC will be Mike Duncan, who has been Kentucky's RNC Committeeman forever. He was a key player in McConnell's makeover of the Kentucky Republican Party. The Kentucky GOP is one of the most successful in the country.

This will also make sure the RNC is well coordinated with McConnell and the Senate Republicans. This will be a very good thing.

I have long maintained that those ACU ratings are rigged --senators are told what they need to vote "conservative" on to keep up their ratings. Why Arlen Specter even gets nearly 50 sometimes.

On Friday Steele specifically told Cavuto it was up to the President, but if asked he would be pleased to consider the position.

Logically....this country has an enormous amount of Hispanic voters.....politicians pander to voters. I don't think this appointment will matter one whit. Hispanics will vote for dims. But, it is beginning to look like the Republican powers that be are courting Hispanics and "moderates".....right before the next election, a bone or two will thrown to the conservatives.

I'm sorry but he is a terrible terrible choice. Put aside his anxiety to establish completely open borders, he is soooo dull and boring, appears stupid, and believe me, he will be walked all over by everyone.

This is completely moronic. The RNC phone number is 202-863-8500... let them know how you feel.

We can do BETTER than this.

This is CRAZY, Bah.

You and I have seen him on the Senate floor...he can barely give a speech...

Plus..isn't he in the Gang of 14??

I have been yelling (while vacuuming)...and between having Lamar Alexander as WHIP, for crying out loud...and now THIS...I give UP on the Republican Party.

Why not Allen or Santorum..or STEELE, he wanted it??

Apparently the GOP leadership is still unconscious from last Tuesday's severe beating....They should have waited to appoint the new leader until full consciousness was restored....some time next spring, maybe.

For crying out loud - at this very moment the Chinese communists are drilling for oil and gas not far off the Florida coast -with the help of Cuba.

In point of fact there are many millions of barrels of proven reserves in the waters surrounding Florida (and Calif) - all that would help a great deal if they were actually produced...

The objections coming out of Florida from guys like Mel is that is might spoil the tourist views - or put a little oil on the beaches and thus it cannot be allowed to happen

"What have Bush and Rove been smoking recently?"

The same stuff when they decided the time to announce Rumsfeld's resignation.
