I'm almost certain, he is temporary and nearly as certain that Michael Steele is going to get a cabinet postion so he will look good for a VP choice.

I was plenty close to voting CP in 2004. When he actually issued a press release about the Bush twins' speech at the RNC, I decided I wouldn't give my vote to someone like that.

Are they sure this is not NRSC -- for Senators?

That would make more sence

Not that I'm thrilled .. but it makes senses

If Duncan is so good (and I am not saying he isn't)...why didn't they just name HIM RNC Chairman then??

Michael Steele was personable for sure but he also was quite public in his displeasure with President Bush and current Republican policy.

The job description is to sell the Republican party and that includes the President.

He was not qualified for that position. A Cabinet position, possible HUD is better suited.

Meanwhile ACU gives Mel Martinez a 100% rating.

Yea, I do know what Ken Mehlman thinks about it and that is the problem.

According to our news today, they still have 185,000 votes to count.

Carolyn, have you heard how many of these are from Dist 5 ?

I am with you that it is not the conservative credentials as he is aligned with my two Oklahoma Senators, it is the fact he is a sitting Senator and I wouldn't think would have the time.

I hate to say it but Bush is getting on my nerves since the election.

Mine, too!

I just sent an email to the WhiteHouse telling him, how baffled I am by this appointment and asking him if he was now wanting his "4th brother's" wife as the next president?

I concluded the letter with a simple truth, this email was the first I have ever sent to the WH that was NOT an email of praise and that I have completely and totally supported and defended him and the WH for six unwavering years, but now, even I am beginning to ask, "What the hell are you thinking?!?"

Martinez is in the minority now. He will have plenty of time on his hands. All he has to do is show up for a few committee meetings now and then, and vote. He will have lots of time to devote to the RNC.

You all need to get it into your heads that the Republican Party has GOT to appeal to Hispanic voters or it is DONE as a majority party within the next 10 years. President Bush and Karl Rove are not going to give up on this. The GOP will not survive as a party of angry white Southern married Christians. Mel Martinez now becomes the first minority to head a major political party, and he is not a "token" appointee because he has won an election with 5 million people voting for him in a very big state. It's a great move.

Nor I. But at least one conservative talk show host said he didn't care if the dems took over the senate. Now we have reaped what has been sown for the past few years. Endless bashing, trashing and criticizing. It's enough to turn voters away from our side. Nothing positive all negative all the time.

It is RNC which makes little sense. At least the person who will run things on a day to day basis is very good. Still don't think a sitting Senator should head RNC.

The way they said it on the noon news was the 185,000 were all in Hayworth's district with the balance being 5500 votes.

being a centrist, do you think he got the offer because of his surname?

He must know something about winning elections. He is the only Republican to be elected to the U. S. Senate from Florida in the last twelve years.

The position should go to a person who is a genuine streetfighter, and will be willing to hammer the Democrats day after day. This should be coupled with a brilliant tactical mind as well.

I am sure he is a fine Senator - but I have no data that indicates he combines these qualities.

Regards, Ivan
