I am NOT and was NEVER a Harriet Meirs fan, by any stretch of the imagination...but, you must not know who Lynne Stewart is ... or you were j/k.

Agreed, did it get the republicrats a lot of votes when Reagan did it back in the 80's? Nope! It won't this time either.

May I now suggest the Constitutional Party or Libertarian Party?

Originally I was quite pleased with Martinez. It was great seeing a Cuban-American rise to that level. But, since he's revealed himself an open-borders, pro-amnesty type, I have ZERO use for him. I'll never ever vote for a candidate with that position, no matter what; no matter how rotten their opponent might be. I'm really getting disgusted beyond words with my Party. If they keep wanting to sell out our country to criminal illegals, to Hell with them.

"who shall be elected by the members of the Republican National Committee"

"c) The eight (8) vice chairmen shall be elected at regional caucuses by the Republican National Committee members of the four (4) regions and shall be residents of and Republican National Committee members from their respective regions."

Looks like Bush is just someone who puts forth the name. Looks like the RNC can say "thanks, but no thanks." Especially with a lame duck president.

These a$$holes are not content to alienate 95% of the base, they're going for a full 100% alienation. I'm not going to abandon the party, but we gotta go after these RINO b@$t@rds in the primaries as Hugh Hewitt says.

Me too.. I love Lamar, but his personality is so low key, however, I had the opportunity of sitting before Mel last summer to discuss an international issue, he was so empty, so lost on basic commerce.. I was truly surprised.. then living in Fla I have been to several of his fund raisers.. he is so bla... he just does not get it.. what ever it is these days...

Just talked to the RNC - CALL THEM 202-863-8500. Martinez will be voted on in January by the 155 voting members for a 2-year term.

Call your State RNC.

The ACU rating is a good thing generally speaking. For this position, though, a personality is mandatory. Need a good rating, great public speaking skills, and charisma.

Lifetime ACU rating of 96? Also not too shabby. But this appointment is going to make the anti-immigration crowd go nuts. It's happening already on this thread. d ignore them.

I think they chose Martinez primarily for two reasons. First, he is a Hispanic immigrant. The GOP Hispanic vote was down a full 10% points from 2004. If this happens again, or if they don't reverse the trend, the GOP will be doomed to minority party status. This is an excellent step in the right direction of trying to regain these voters.

Second, and even more important, Texas and (to a slightly lesser extent) Florida mostly bucked the national Democratic trends. These happen to be the second and third biggest states after California. These are also states where the state GOP has adopted an inclusive approach to Hispanics. If you start pissing off Texas and Florida hispanics and they flip to the Democrats, the Democrats will soon have an electoral lock on the four biggest states in the nation. This means a lock on the Presidency and the House as well.

The GOP can win these voters if it goes after them. They tend to be culturally conservative. I know that many of them in Texas are. I bet that this is even more true in Florida, where many of the Hispanics are Cuban-Americans. President Bush and brother Jeb have been very successful at winning Hispanic votes.

IMHO conservatives need to consider forming a whole new political party

It's called the Constitution Party.

What are you Mel Martinez or something? You keep posting the same crap that has been exquisitely disputed.

Martinez isn't even very well thought of in Florida. He has a 43% positive/42% negative job approval rating and he's soft on illegal immigration. Yuck.

mark: So I'd take the ACU ratings with a bit of a grain of salt...

You two guys are gonna burn in hell for blaspheming the Sacred Scorecard.

I'm just sayin'...
