Military shoots down Cher's 'Truth' mission
New York Daily News ^ | 11/20/06 | Rush & Molloy

Cher had 5,000 DVDs of "The Ground Truth: After the Killings" made, but unless American soldiers are on her mailing list, they're not getting to see it. Army, Navy and Marine Corps base officers have refused to show the documentary, about difficulties Iraq War vets have after they return home, according to director Patricia Foulkrod.

"It's hard for them to reconnect to their families," Foulkrod told us. "They've been in a very dramatic situation. The adjustment is so difficult. They come back and are offered only minimum wage. We spent so much money on the war, the government didn't really set aside the proper money to take care of these guys when they get back."

During one phone pitch to a Colorado base, a commanding officer told a Focus Features distribution exec that the content of the film was "inappropriate" and would be "detrimental" to the servicemen and their families.

Actresses Olivia Wilde ("The O.C.") and Susan Sarandon are also trying to get the word out. "I understand why the Armed Forces would be afraid to show this film because it shows the huge gap in recognizing and providing help for returning soldiers' psychological and physical needs," Sarandon told us.

An Army spokeswoman replied: "First of all, I actually only know one place they went to, and that was West Point. … This is more of an activist piece than a documentary," she said. "If you look at 'The Ground Truth,' it has a definite point of view. We don't say, 'Don't go see it,' but we don't see why we should promote it.

"We don't get too many requests on documentaries," she said. "It's usually more things with entertainment value, people saying we'd like to do something nice for the troops - like the movie 'Sahara.'"

Since when has Susan Saradon cared a wit about American military personnel?

How is this any different than what Tokyo Rose or Hanoi Jane did? She is trying to turn the military against their government. Jail her for the traitor she is.

just remember in 2000 in Pensacola when the military vote was challenged. Good ole beaver jaws, Margaret Carlson said" the only reason citizens join the militery is for tax breaks, they do some time here and get themselves sent over seas so they do not have to pay their fair share of
taves here".

She of course said she was taken outta context.

MY son is back, after two tours with the Corps, and he is not looking at taking any minimum wage jobs - all are 4x or more over MW - and that is starting or base.

Cher is a mixed bag (no pun intended) - I think her heart may be in the right place, she could use a little more common sense - and maybe a new set of 'friends'.

Cher may have been slightly misguided here, but she, unlike most Hollyweird types, has always supported the troops. I think she's just concerned about what's being (or not being) done for them after they return home. One thing that really bugs me about this war is incredible large number of troops who are maimed. It's great that our medical technology and understanding have advanced to where we can save battlefield injuries that in the past would have meant certain death, but it is still heart-breaking to see. I wonder what type of society they will create when they reach middle age.

They don't want to help soldiers. They want to force a cut and run.

Wait a minute... This is Cher, forever stuck in the era of Disco. It's best in this case to say: "Just shut up!" ;)

First of all, most Hollywood types don't give a damn about the military...Unless if benefits them directly, publicity wise

Cher, like the rest of them, is clueless. Just another publicity stunt. They want us of if Iraq. O.K. we'll just schedule it right after we get out of Bosnia, Korea, etc...The world is a dangerous place and most of the peaceniks are morons.

Cher is going to join a re-kindled version of the Spice Girls. Her nickname will be Old Spice.

Dan Rather is doing work along this line as well, trying to demonstrate that those who go to war come back ruined, basically. It is a coordinated effort.

People like Carlson that use that "out of context" disclaimer seem to be unaware that EVERY quote quoted EVERYWHERE is a quote out of context. I guess their wish is that the INOFFENSIVE part were the one quoted. Maybe , knowing that, they should tailor both their writings and their public statements more carefully so that the individual parts of their arguments stand by themselves as self-explanatory,and do not contradict or get contradicted by any other part. That is a virtual definition of what the best writers do, like, for example,
George Orwell.---
supremeD strikes again!

Didn't the Dems suggest a year or two ago that ALL vets have "manditory" psychological treatment before leaving the Military based on the presumption that must be suffering a mental disorder caused by their service? Kind of eliminates some job opportunities having that on your record.
