The new thread is up!!

What would you send to our Troops this holiday season?

We're usually silly in here, but today we thought we'd ask a somewhat serious question. If you could send something to our Troops this holiday season, what would it be and why?

Holidays can be lonely for even some of us that are stateside, but imagine being in Iraq, Afghanistan, Djibouti, Gitmo, or elsewhere and far away from your family.

What would you want to have if you were so far away? Make it as silly, serious, or fun as you want it to be. Please don't make it political!

God’s Work Of Art

READ: Colossians 3:8-17

Put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him. —Colossians 3:10

Vincent Van Gogh bought a mirror and used his own likeness in many of his paintings. Rembrandt also used himself as a model, completing nearly 100 self-portraits. These artists had a good example, that of God Himself, who used His own likeness as the pattern for His crown jewel of creation (Gen. 1:27).

Henry Ward Beecher, the famous 19th-century clergyman, said, “Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.” In everything we create—works of art, music, literature, even our children—a bit of ourselves is revealed. The same is true of God; each of us reveals a bit of Him. The image may be tarnished, but it’s always there and is never beyond repair.

Superficial changes won’t fix what’s wrong with us, however. Clothes, cosmetics, and surgical procedures can make us look like everyone else, not like the unique masterpiece God designed each of us to be. We need a whole new “self” (Col. 3:10), one that is renewed in His image and dressed in the wardrobe of mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, and longsuffering (v.12).

To improve your “self” image, put on the character of God and display His image in all its glory. Julie Ackerman Link

O to be like Thee! O to be like Thee,
Blessed Redeemer, pure as Thou art;
Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness;
Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.  —Chisholm

God’s children should reflect their Father’s likeness.

Bible in One Year:   Daniel 3-4; 1 John 5

What I would send our Troops for Christmas?

I would send them a big *Thank You* first.

If I could bring them home just for Christmas, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I'd send them Osama Bin Laden's head on a platter as well as any other terrorist that still exists out there.

I would send them the next 10 years full of Congress' pay raises.

And of course, I'd send them lots and lots of C-H-O-C-O-L-A-T-E!!!

ke it as silly, serious, or fun as you want it to be. Please don't make it political!

Actually, I recently participated in a charity of sorts for the troops at my church. See, each person who wants to participate donates $10. Each $10 donation is then used by the guy organizing the fundraiser to buy a phone card. Then, a couple days from today, the man will fly to Iraq (He got special permission from our governor, Jeb Bush) and freely distribute all the phone cards he had acquired amongst the troops, so they can use them to call home and talk to their loved ones.

Good evening MoJo! I would send them a huge ribeye steak and green beans and mashed taters and buttery rolls, washed down with the beverage of their choice.

Oh and lots of cash, and some of tomkow's Hooters girls to make conversation and serve beers. And more beers.

That's just me though, not sure what others would send or want. LOL

The same "free reign" and homefront support our soldiers in WWII had to do whatever it takes to defeat America's enemies.
