Did You Know?
European Space Agency astronaut Christer Fuglesang was once a Swedish national Frisbee champion, holding the national title in "maximum time aloft" in 1978. Fuglesang will take one of his personal Frisbees to the International Space Station.

If he launches it in space, it might someday be mistaken for a UFO.

It's the hydrogen flame tower, probably just a weird backlight, or an additive to make the flame visible.

I don't know if the flare would necessarily cause auroral activity, but I have been looking and see nothing extraordinary.

All that aside, but I've been looking at Joan Higginbotham and she's causing ME to have some extraordinary auroral activity. LOL >:-)

"If he launches it in space, it might someday be mistaken for a UFO."

No chance of a frisbee toss during a spacewalk, darn it. See Post #31 in this thread for more details about the frisbee toss planned while in orbit.

Now 30 minutes from launch of Discovery. All remains quiet in Firing Room 4 of the Complex 39 Launch Control Center. No issues are being worked and weather is still acceptable for liftoff.

Angular momentum is the key to a good Frisbee
or flying disc toss....JJ61

Good deal.

We have a bunch of Shaw Airmen who are working right now to protect the shuttle from any problems.

I hope the big machine gets up tonight.

Thank you for the map.

It appears I should be able to see something about eight minutes after launch.

It should go dark at MECO (Main Engine CutOff) at T+ 8:23, so you may have a minute or less to see it.
