NEW YORK (AP) -- More than nine out of 10 Americans, men and women alike, have had premarital sex, according to a new study. The high rates extend even to women born in the 1940s, challenging perceptions that people were more chaste in the past.

I don't see sex before marriage as being immoral. 95% of the people of this country either decided the same, or consciously decided to be immoral.

Thank you. That was my first question....who did the study and what is their agenda?

With any study, any news story that should always be the number one question...now if only we could explain that to the sheople.

I'm not sure how that sarcastic comment of mine was interpreted as being about morality. I was focusing on the peer pressure element.

And yes, I avoided answering your question. ;)

"Many of those polled have had to provide dishonest answers. More than 5% of the population is butt ugly."

I am ashamed to admit that that entered my head right away too.

Where did they poll - downtown Manhattan, South Beach or Wilshire Blvd?

My thoughts as well -- the Castro, San Francisco? Detroit?

If the definition of sex in this survey is kissing on the lips, I believe it. Otherwise, no.

"The data clearly show that the majority of older teens and adults have already had sex before marriage, which calls into question the federal government's funding of abstinence-only-until-marriage programs for 12- to 29-year-olds," Finer said.

The sad thing is that this guy actually thought this made sense when he said it.

These kinds of reports are famous for being bogus. This is like the report commissioned by feminists that concluded that 70 percent of all women have been raped or sexually assaulted.

These reports are carefully invented to advance an agenda.

Does the definition of sex include necking as well as intercourse.

Exactly.

This research was done by "...the Guttmacher Institute, a private New York-based think tank that studies sexual and reproductive issues and which disagrees with government-funded programs that rely primarily on abstinence-only teachings."

In other words, they're hard-core pro-abortion pro-promiscuity people with a deadly serious agenda to promote.

This "study" is worthless. Its outcome was predetermined before it started.

Yes, but it's not much of a reference point to make this dopey statment:

The high rates extend even to women born in the 1940s, challenging perceptions that people were more chaste in the past.

The high rates extending 'even to women born in the 1940's' cannot be used to 'challenge perceptions that people were more chaste in the past' because absolutely everyone knows that the post-war baby-boom generation is quite proud of being the most promiscuous generation in history, they invented premarital sex and rock and roll--just ask them.

It's a stupid statement, but illustrative of the dopey boomer bias in the drive-by media.

Good for you, BTW.

While I realize the "reality check" is intended by AP to wag the dog, there is indeed a reality check here: a reality check on how close we really are to the end of the great experiment. This is a very bad prognostic marker for the West; it indicates that absolutes have been jettisoned, and is symptomatic of consequences far greater than AIDS, problem pregnancies, etc.

Expect China to become stronger and the U.S. to become weaker. Better people will take the scepter of leadership from us.

I can only hope you are correct on that point. That is clearly not nearly the offense as having intimate relations with multiple partners over one's lifetime (excepting the death of one's spouse, of course).
