Cruise: The Christ of Scientology?

Tom Cruise is not just one of Hollywood's leading actors, he is also the new 'Christ' of Scientology, leaders of the religion apparently believe.

Reports in the Sun newspaper claim that he has been told he is the "chosen one" to spread news about the faith.

Leader David Miscavige also believes that in years to come the Mission: Impossible actor will be worshipped like Jesus for his efforts to raise the profile of the religion, according to the British tabloid.

A source said to be close to Cruise told the paper: "Tom has been told he is Scientology's Christ-like figure.

"Like Christ, he's been criticised for his views. But future generations will realise he was right."

Cruise joined the Church of Scientology in the 1980s. It was founded by L. Ron Hubbard and is, according to its website, "the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life".

At Cruise's wedding last year to the actress Katie Holmes the pair were reported to have chosen a Scientology ceremony but held a Catholic blessing later to appease her parents.

How in the hell does someone get to be so delusional they buy into Scientology crapola?

There is as much evidence for Thetans, Xenu and Engrams as their is for Sasquatch.

I can just see Laurence Fishburne, Morpheus, saying that line while strapping him into his E-meter.

Hey, works for me!

According to the latest National Enquirer, unable to go out, breathe or even utter her own thoughts. In other words, a Stepford Wife.

Scientology's Messiah would be somebody like Cruise. More so when you consider that their articles of faith were written by a science fiction author. Cruise is a perfect fit for Scientology.

Wait a minute! Wasn't Star Trek a religion first? Don't they both claim association with the same intergalactic aliens?
Looks like a patent and trademark suit. Bring on the lawyers!

I don't want to burst anyone's tabloid bubble, but this is most likely a bogus story. Either the "source" close to Cruise is an outsider looking for his 15 minutes of fame, or it's a planted story from a Church operative meant to difuse TC's PR mishaps. It wouldn't be the first time the COS has mislead the press.

I know Scientology PR, and it works like this: You get the press to print an outrageously dubious story that can be easily proven false. Then the next time someone criticizes TC and Scn. you trot out the Cruise/Christ story as an example of how ludicrous the press is, and how they have no credibility. The Church of Scientology calls it "dead agenting."

So let's all just relax before we end up on a futile media snipe hunt.

If there was a religion that told me I was their Christ, I would high tail it out of there.

Lol! Sort of like that Grocho Marx line, "Any club that would have me as a member I don't wanna join."
