My aunt and uncle sent this out to our family at 6:30 AM today. Carrie is my young cousin, a very gifted artist, and the second eldest among her siblings. She and her family are in Michigan.
Prayer reqeust from my aunt and uncle (Carrie is their granddaughter).
This morning on her way to work Carrie's car slid on the highway and into a tree. She has very bad injuries, especially to her head. Her brain is swelling and she is now in surgery. They plan to open her skull to allow for the swelling, and she is not responding.They don't give her parents a lot of hope. We are telling everyone so you can join us in praying for our dear Caroline. They called her parents about 7:45 this morning and they're at the hospital now.

Miracles do happen everyday, so your family and Carrie will be in our prayers.
My mother was hit by a car going 40 mph a few years ago while standing outside her car by the side of the road. She also lost lots of blood and had life threatening broken bones(although not her neck nor any head injuries). She had over 30 broken bones in her body and it was a long road back. We almost lost her several times, but after 4 months in the hospital, she made an almost full recovery.
I pray that your Carrie does too!

Thanks for the update. And I will continue to remember Carrie in my prayers.
I have been through this twice, once with my ex-wife and once with a close friend's son, The breathing without the machine is the real tell, so long as she keeps doing that then she is fighting, but don't get upset if she stops for a while, it's just exhaustion.
I went through the "she wont make it through the night" 5 different times with my ex-. I found out that Doctors basically don't know anything and they are making it all up as they go along. So don't give up hope when they give the grim news, listen to the "there's a chance that...." news, that's what they really believe but are afraid to get your hopes up.
Thanks for the update, Gretchen. I imagine the neurosurgeon had to warn against the worst possible scenario before surgery, especially with a severe head injury. It sounds hopeful now that she's out of surgery successfully and even taking some breaths on her own.
Heavenly Father, we ask You be merciful to Carrie and to bring full healing from any damage done to to her brain and protect it from any further damage from swelling, etc. Restore her to full health of body and mind so that she can continue to serve You the rest of her life. Continue to prompt your people to be a support to Carrie and her family during this time of recovery. I ask this in Jesus' precious Name, Amen.

Heavenly father, I thank you for your Living Word. You said that your Word is Life to those who find it and medicine to all their flesh. Today, by my confession, I apply your Word to Carrie's body by giving voice to it.
You said in Psalm 139:14 that Carrie is fearfully and wonderfully made and that your works are marvelous. I declare that you made Carrie and she is a marvelous creation.
I speak to sickness and disease [and injuries] today and proclaim that according to Philippians 2:10 they must bow down to the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Every name in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth bows its knee to Jesus' name.
I speak to Carrie's body today and declare that I have authority over it [by faith in Jesus Christ]. I command it to receive the Word of God. Matthew 8:17 proclaims that Jesus bore her sickness and took her infirmities.
Heavenly Father, I thank you that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in Carrie and makes alive her mortal body.
I speak to her immune system and command it to line up with the Word of God. It will destroy sickness and disease in her body and perform its job, for this is what God created it to do.
I thank you, Father, that every cell in Carrie's body responds to your Word [regardless of distance]. Your Word permeates Carrie's body from the top of her head to the bottom of her feet. I confess that the Word of God is being made flesh in her.
Psalm 103:3 declares that you, Father, forgave all her iniquities and healed all her diseases. Father, that is your confession and I make it my confession also. I don't judge by the sight of my eyes; I judge by your Living Word. It is your Word that lives in Carrie and brings health and healing to every part of her body.
Heavenly Father, I rejoice at your promise of divine health. I believe it! Today, I declare that I will see your promise of healing manifest in Carrie's body.
Healing is Carrie's because Jesus paid the price two thousand years ago. God so loved her that He sent His Son to die on the cross so she could experience life on God's terms. His abundant life is manifesting in her. Make her whole - body, soul, and spirit. Amen.

in a lot of families (including mine).. the term sisters, cousins etc gets rather blurred. If you are close. you are cousins or sisters despite the true nomenclature.
you are family & love & care. the three essential ingredients!
Prayers for you and Carrie's family to be strong and my humble prayers for Carrie. So sad and tragic, but we believe in the power of prayer.
My sincere prayers and wishes for only the best. God bless Carrie and all those who love her.
There is hope. If she is taking breaths on her own and they have relieved the pressure on her brain, that is all good news. Brain surgeons are the most pessimistic men alive, they are almost as bad as oncologists. There's plenty of room for them to be pleasantly surprised. So that's what we'll pray for here.
O BLESSED Redeemer, relieve, we beseech thee, by thy indwelling power, the distress of this thy servant; release her from sin, and drive away all pain of soul and body, that being restored to soundness of health, she may offer thee praise and thanksgiving; who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.
Her dad just called to let us know how things are at the hospital. Carrie is in ICU and they can see her sometimes. Carrie is in a coma, but it probably is induced. She is getting some medication to let her rest. Her blood pressure is good, her body temperature is good. She's on oxygen, and sometimes breathes on her own, which is good. Her father said she looks better to them than earlier, so we are hopeful.Your prayers are appreciated, and so are all your concerns. [A friend] took [the three younger children] home with her to get them out a bit. Her parents plan to stay at the hospital all night. It's been a long day for them. Her older sister is on her way home from [the West Coast]. Her company booked a flight for her and she should arrive about 8 or 9 tonight [MI time]. That's wonderful.
So we hope the doctors and nurses are taking good care of our dear Carrie, and that she has a good night--also her parents and family.
We'll keep you informed as we hear.
