My aunt and uncle sent this out to our family at 6:30 AM today. Carrie is my young cousin, a very gifted artist, and the second eldest among her siblings. She and her family are in Michigan.
Prayer reqeust from my aunt and uncle (Carrie is their granddaughter).
This morning on her way to work Carrie's car slid on the highway and into a tree. She has very bad injuries, especially to her head. Her brain is swelling and she is now in surgery. They plan to open her skull to allow for the swelling, and she is not responding. They don't give her parents a lot of hope. We are telling everyone so you can join us in praying for our dear Caroline. They called her parents about 7:45 this morning and they're at the hospital now.
From Carrie's parents
We saw the neurosurgeon on Monday. It is difficult to make a trip to the doctor's office, but we managed all right. Carrie and I [her mom] spent lots of time waiting in hallways, and she was transferred to 6 different surfaces throughout the morning, but she handled it all very well.
She had a head CT scan and then the doctor appointment. All in all, it took about 5 hours. D met me for the doctor visit so we could both ask questions.
A couple of good things came from it:
1. They removed the cervical neck brace. This was a cumbersome brace of questionable value that every single nurse that cared for her HATED. It was uncomfortable for Carrie and led to skin breakdown. So we were all happy to see it go.2. We scheduled the surgery to replace her bone flap for Tuesday, April 24. So that is in just a few days. Her surgery is at 7:30 a.m. She will spend the night in the ICU and then be discharged. We will be happy to have this procedure behind us. She will look more like herself when it is finished, too.
Our family doctor has agreed to do home visits, and we are thankful for that. He will be a good resource for getting things done that we want to see happen, rather than working so much with the neurosurgeon and case manager.
The physical therapist is wonderful and Carrie is staying nice and limber. Carrie's respiratory problems have settled down. She coughs when she needs to, and doesn't need her lungs suctioned very often at all. This was a common occurrence the first couple of days home. We are learning, through trial and error, about some feeding problems to avoid.
So all in all, things are going well.
Here is a verse and a quote about perseverance: "A lack of endurance is one of the greatest causes of defeat, especially in prayer. We don't wait well. We're into microwaving; God, on the other hand, is usually into marinating."
"Stubbornness can be channeled into a righteous force called persistence. It is one of the most important spiritual attributes of the Christian life."
Charles Spurgeon said, "By perseverance the snail reached the ark."
"Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary (or lose heart)". Galatians 6:9
Here are some prayer points to consider:
* That Carries surgery be successfulThank you--your prayers and concerns mean so much to all of us.
* For wisdom-[what] next?
* For continued grace to stand firm in our faith That God's miraculous healing power would be made manifest in her life. With much love,
M and D
Prayers on the way for sweet Carrie, Gretchen.
Sounding better and better, right, (((GEM)))?
I took typing in high school — they made us learn on (gasp!) manual typewriters that were killer hard to punch out the keys, even though electric typewriters were widely available by then. We HAD to learn to type by touch, not looking at the keyboard, because it increases speed so much. After developing severe wrist pain from years of typing, I got an ergonomic keyboard. It just took a couple days to adjust to, and I’ve never looked back. I love it.
I asked Carrie's mom a few weeks ago if they have had thoughts along the line of Carrie continuing to mend slowly at home, until the time comes when they (her parents) know it is time to ask someone, or a team, who have the gift of healing to come and lay hands on her and pray / command her life and health to return to her. Her mom (also my cousin) said that sounded wonderful ... and the main thing is to know the right time. If this is how God wants to heal her completely, I'm sure they will know when He is starting to line things up.
I wish this PC were working well enough for me to summarize and post the earlier message about the direction God has given to her parents from many other sources.
It stands out to me that since Carrie has been moved to her family's home, she has made a lot of improvements in a short time.
That’s how I see it -— a lot of improvement in a short time. Continued prayers.
I am glad to hear the good news about Carrie.
I will most definitely pray extra hard on Tuesday..but, never fear, my perseverence in prayer and thought has not and will not waiver for her.
The family doctor making house calls is a great blessing for Carrie and her parents.
Thank you for the update...
God, please continue to bless Carrie and her family through this struggle back to health.

May the Father bless you Gretchen.
I continue to pray for Carrie.
Much love,
Kristin
This sounds good indeed. I am really happy to hear that their doctor will make house calls for her. That is so sensible it is scary. LOL I am still praying for Carrie and all of you daily and I will send up some extra ones for Tuesday. God bless all of you.
Prayers for Carrie and family.
Continued prayers. Sounds like every day is a step in the direction of healing.
Blessings to all who are caring for Carrie.

It sounds as though recovery is picking up speed. I'm pretty sure that being at home with all the familiar places and noises and especially smells is good for Carrie.
When my daughter comes home from college, the first thing she says is, "It smells like home!" Familiar scents go straight to the most basic parts of the brain.
Lichtenberg
(New South Wales Contingent)
Rudyard Kipling
Smells are surer than sounds or sights
To make your heart-strings crack
They start those awful voices o nights
That whisper, Old man, come back!
That must be why the big things pass
And the little things remain,
Like the smell of the wattle by Lichtenberg,
Riding in, in the rain.
There was some silly fire on the flank
And the small wet drizzling down
There were the sold-out shops and the bank
And the wet, wide-open town;
And we were doing escort-duty
To somebodys baggage-train,
And I smelt wattle by Lichtenberg
Riding in, in the rain.
It was all Australia to me
All I had found or missed:
Every face I was crazy to see,
And every woman Id kissed:
All that I should nt ha done, God knows!
(As He knows Ill do it again),
That smell of the wattle round Lichtenberg,
Riding in, in the rain!
And I saw Sydney the same as ever,
The picnics and brass-bands;
And my little homestead on Hunter River
And my new vines joining hands.
It all came over me in one act
Quick as a shot through the brain
With the smell of the wattle round Lichtenberg,
Riding in, in the rain.
I have forgotten a hundred fights,
But one I shall not forget
With the raindrops bunging up my sights
And my eyes bunged up with wet;
And through the crack and the stink of the cordite
(Ah Christ! My country again!)
The smell of the wattle by Lichtenberg,
Riding in, in the rain!
I will post this on our prayer forum.I was just thinking on the way home and wondering how she was doing,(((Hugs)))Betty
All things according to God’s plan. We knew Carrie would improve when she went home with all the familiar sounds and scents reaching out to her. She went home at the right time. She is having the surgery at the right time. She and her family will find the healing at the right time. Even tho we all prefer to nudge Him along, we have to wait and believe and know that it will all unfold according to His magnificent plan.
Agreed. He is bringing something or someone to Carrie / or ‘carrieing’ it to someone. We can be like little puppies, excited and eager and bouncing UP and down in our enthusiasm for Him to git er done!
Persistence is to patience as the diamond is to coal with a lot of stubbornness as elbow grease ‘throwed in’ for good measure. HE is the perfect example of that! LOL!
THE NORTHERN SAINTS,ONCE AGAIN ENJOYING GOD’S SPRING CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR CARRIE AND FAMILY!
It is amazing how much Carrie’s life is blessing mine, here across the country , in Los Angeles.
The quotes and verses were JUST what I needed for myself today. To persevere under pressure, is nothing less that a attribute of the Holy SPirit ,that we allow to be infused in our very being, when the stresses are at their greatest!
