I personally would prefer someone who can debate from a point of knowledge and experience with a good, sound understanding of history. Ok lets debate history. Newt what historical importance do you place on not getting it on with the hired help while you are still married??

I think with the campaign season frontloaded at the very start, might make it more interesting to see how they all handle the ground game, instead of focusing primarily on one state, they'll have to criss-cross the country to do the meet and greets, breakfasts, fundraisers, town halls, etc.

It is never a good idea to move backwards.
Regardless of his popularity within our political circles, to the average American, Newt is about as popular as a forty-something ex-high school football star that spends most of his time reliving past glories while wandering through life with his backside plastered into a Lazy-boy and a beer balanced next to the remote and Cheetos.
Drafting Newt will guarantee our loss. No matter who our candidate ends up being, he/she needs to be about the future, not the past.

Actually, Duncan Hunter is #1 in the FreeRepublic MEMBERS poll.

Newt would lose the election in a landslide. That's unfortunate, because he by far has the best positions on the issues, of all the presidential candidates.
I agree with your assessment. It is a sad commentary that the best candidate on the issues will lose to the least qualified based on "star appeal"!

She's not going to run, so we don't have to be scared of your strange prediction." I agree that she is unlikely to run, but why do you see the prediction as strange?

Newt can't win for the same reason that Hillary won't win -- too much baggage And they're both plain unlikeable.
To: onyx
LOL. So can I be the one who decides which ideas are good and which ones are lousy? ;-)

I've said it before and I'll say it again
Not only is Newt Gingrich unelectable, he's unnominateable!
As Henry Hyde said, Newt is half genius and half nuts.

Newt is an intelligent and thoughtful person who I could easily give my support to. However, I don't think he will get the support he needs to be nominated simply because he doesn't have the looks (like Mitt), or the charisma (like Rudy?) to attract enough people. Not to mention, he has a lot of baggage, but so does Rudy and Hillary. Maybe this time around baggage isn't gonna be such a big deal since they all got it big time! LOL!

I've never heard her say anything about gun control, and a President is powerless to order a gun confiscation. Maybe the President could do so under a declaration of martial law, but it could trigger armed resistance instead.
It's just not realistic.

LOL. Really? That didn't seem to be the prevailing mood around here these days. :-)
In all seriousness, I'm all for an early-in as-many-as-possible with most of them falling back and out of the race early. I worry if the party's nominee gets a LOT less than the majority of the primary votes. I think it sets us up for problems, even with a winner take all system.

See My Post #87 ... No looks ... no charisma! Yep that is all you need these days ... looks ... charisma and no brains!

Conservative estimates put the cost of a primary run at $100 million for each candidate, so I'll wager that the field will shrink rather fast.
