****..........Mr Obama...was later the guest of honour at the Brown Chapel AME Church where Martin Luther King gathered the marchers on that fateful day.
"I am the fruits of your labour," he told those gathered to mark the 42nd anniversary. "I am the offspring of the movement. So when people ask me if I've been to Selma before, I tell them - I'm coming home."
His visit had been arranged weeks earlier. But he was suddenly joined in the town not only by Mrs Clinton, who altered her campaign schedule at the last minute, but also her husband Bill Clinton. The former president, a figure beloved by many blacks in the South, visited Selma in 2000 for the 35th anniversary.
Mrs Clinton spoke at First Baptist Church, less than a block from Brown Chapel, and the two were later due to march together across the bridge. Although it was an event designed to foster unity, the juxtaposition of the duelling campaigns made for an uneasy atmosphere.
"I just want to begin by giving praise to the Lord Almighty," said Mrs Clinton, 59, with a Southern twang not normally detectable in her speeches, as she announced she had come as "a sister in worship and a grateful friend and beneficiary of what happened in Selma 42 years ago".
She recalled attending a speech by Mr King in Chicago in 1963 and said there was still work to be done to achieve equality. "We have to finish the march. That is the call to our generation."
There were cries of "Tell them, president," from one man as her address became a politician's stump speech in which she talked about US energy policy, climate change, health insurance and "our young men and women in harm's way" in Iraq.
She quoted her husband during his 2000 visit as saying the civil rights movement had allowed "two sons of the south - Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton" to become president. It had also given, she said, "Barack Obama the chance to run for president ... And yes, it is giving me the chance.".........***
I managed to make it through 12 seconds before I had to kill the link. I just couldn't take anymore. If blacks can't see through such blatant pandering by the Witch, they deserve what they'll get.
Reminds me of Gore hollering at a black church.
The caption for Senator Clinton can only be this:
"You KNOW what I'm talking about!"
Astonishing how black folk keep lining up to support people who helped them make a deal with the Devil. Nothing like depending on the government to help you pay the rent, school the kids and get you a job.
As Ronald Reagan used to say: "Put the government in charge of something and watch it fall apart."
Total dependence = Jim Crow welfare state.
I listened to this and couldn't believe her....how stupid does she think people are??
Yes. Gore turns the "preacher man" on and off as it suits him.
Didn't he use it when he defended Bill Clinton after impeachment?
Too many of their church leaders define "conservatism" from the pulpit as the devil.
So bad. So sad. So wrong.
Seems there was something. Didn't he also gush that "Clinton is the greatest president ever" or something like it?
Everywhere.
He is all things to everyone.
Go back to his statements that begin with "I am..." and then fill in the rest.
Give it a little thought...
I noticed that, too. Must've been an overdose of cornbread.
That may be the case but at this point I think the batrracks bomber expects the honor and the Cliintons are feeding that. If you recall his first political staff for the race were sent over by the Clintons.
What you said.
I'm beginning to think her singular unlikeablilty as a person might start having an effect on her electability, something I've taken very seriously until now.
The thing about the Clintons that has always irked me the most is their brazenly arrogant contempt for everybody else's intelligence.
Granted, there were some people in that audience (usual contingent of race hustlers) who don't deserve anybody's respect for their intelligence & who fully deserve all the chicken-fried patronisation anybody can fling at them. But there were also a lot of people there - the greyed lions of the civil rights movement - whose feet the Clintons aren't fit to wash.
Boggles the mind. Imagine the outrage if Lynn Cheney or even Condi Rice had gone down there & spoken in such a baldly condescending way from that podium.
HRC's political tin ear is legendary, but this can only mean that her husband put her up to this to tank her campaign deliberately. Geffen was right: Bill's going to sabotage her candidacy one way or the other & sooner rather than later.
I would sure love to get the actress who plays Hillary on SNL to pick lottery numbers for me this week. Is she the luckiest woman in show biz right now, or what?
Lawd hep us, she sounded awful, corny, phony, etc. She needs to take some cornpone lessons from Nancy Grace. The late Molly Ivins might have been able to help her out in that department too.
Those two are unreal......... America will get what they deserve if they elect either of them. FAKER FAKER FAKERS!
I was in Santa Fe NM over the weekend and that town is full of left wing nutjobs. They have more bumpersticker full of hate and anger than anyplace I have ever seen. We got the finger for talking on our cell phone and having our dog on our lap. My hubby was on cell and dog was in my lap, both are against the law in the town of wacko hippies who look like hell, no matter how much they shop co-op and health food!
