SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger made nice with Rush Limbaugh on Wednesday, calling in to his radio program a day after dismissing the conservative host as "irrelevant." Limbaugh, who a day earlier had accused the governor of abandoning the conservative cause, treated Schwarzenegger cordially. But he pressed him on recent political moves that have angered conservatives, such as his $12 billion universal health care proposal.
The two had a back-and-forth discussion over extending health care to illegal immigrants and whether the money to pay for the governor's health plan amounted to new taxes or fees.
Limbaugh said the compromises Schwarzenegger said were necessary "to get things done" were a capitulation to liberals.
"We are still compromising our ideology," Limbaugh said. "They are not. And this is what people are upset about."
But Limbaugh sounded pleased when Schwarzenegger eased out of the interview, saying he wanted to smoke more cigars with him.
"You and I, we're going to have a good time again in our next smoke out," Schwarzenegger said. "We'll smoke a stogie together, and we will talk about this from here to eternity. The key thing is that people should know that you and I, we don't have a fight."
Schwarzenegger embraced a more centrist agenda after voters rebuked his attempt in 2005 to limit the power of public employee unions. His recent policy moves, to curb the greenhouse gases associated with global warming, raise the minimum wage and extend health care to all Californians, have angered many conservatives, including Limbaugh.

Your idiotic reasoning is that people like Rush shouldn't criticize unless they run for office...which reductively makes no sense. Beyond that, what you're really implying is that critics should fall in line and be sheeple instead. Then again, you're probably a stinkin' troll, anyway.
damn right he's a troll.
"Rush, talk is cheap, why not run for office if you are so in the know about what are the right polices for Arnold to run on."
Talk is cheap, DeerfieldObserver. Why don't you start a radio show and garner 12 million listeners?
Let me guess - you're a Rudy backer, too.
It is a fallacy for you to suggest that because Rush has never run for office, he is just talk. Frankly, Rush is far more affective as a talk show host in giving a voice to conservative issues and exposing liberal bias and propaganda in the media.
If he was a politician, the media as well as the liberals would make a concerted effort to silence him in the public arena.
Furthermore, it is Rush's right(no pun intended), to express displeasure and hold the governor accountable regarding on policies which are against conservative interests, and for inconsistencies. Arnold the campaigner has flopped on policies once he became Governor.
>>>I listened to most of the "interview" and found that it was mostly a light harangue in which Rush didn't get in much, Governor S. talking in rapid, never-ending fashion.<<<
Just like a F***ing liberal does. I was appalled. Rush was right. There was NO compromise for a right-winger in ANY of what Ahnold said.
Why not tell Rush?
Arnold is right in that he was elected to get results whether you totally agree with him or not. Giuliani is the same way-he cares about getting the job done. Unfortunately a fair number of Freepers seem more concerned with remaining ideologically pure, even if it means losing an important election, rather than in getting things done.
40 million listeners since 1988.
First conservative to point out & disassect the Left's agenda.
He even has stories of how people, upon listening to him, became conservatives and bettered their lives.
That's a Hell of a series of accomplishments for some guy sitting behind a microphone.
Whatever works; that's the name of the game.
Arnolds platform during his campaign was not broadly expressed as just "getting the job done."
He ran on a more conservative platform, and has sense supported liberal policies.
Fortunately, you represent a small herd of posters who are more concerned with accusing conservatives of being ideological then actually standing for issues of substance.
Apparently, the gimmick didn't work.
About the best comment so far!
It is easy to hold onto ideologically pure positions when all you have to do is talk about them.
It is another thing to actually govern, especially in a state where you're in the minority party.
Rush is still #1 and Arnie is a Lame Duck.
I thought as much as I wish Arnold would ...no, could... have said something different; I'm reminded that he had several Propositions on the line, and CA Republicans (not San Diego or Orange County mind you) slapped him in the face. At that point, he had no other choice than to compromise...he had no leg to stand on. He's doing the best he can with what he's been dealt. This state is filled with Dems, and one man cannot do it all.
We want our state back...then start electing some Republicans to back Arnold up. Until then, this is the best we can do...the price of livin' in Paradise (well, San Diego is, anyway ;-)
"I'm afraid Arnie has been hanging around the Kennedy's too long."
Marie has his knads in a knot!
The timing of your entry into this forum casts doubt on your credentials, and your agenda.
Arnie on Rush sounds just like he does on those computer generated phone calls I get from him around election.
Arnie is a fraud---the only folks moving to California
are swiming across the Rio Grande.
I own just about all of the action films Arnold is in. I think he is doing what needs be done in CA; what can be done without a "civil war" breaking out; and the bankrupting of the state as was intended by the DEMS, sinking 1/7th of the nation's economy to hang around the President's neck and the Federal government to usher in every single state sending funds to CA. (You and I are obviously in agreement in this regard). Dems were so intent upon sinking the economy of CA -- they were overripe and overready when Katrina hit. And so obvious. Like proverbial Pavlov dogs they vented their overdue spleens and rehearsed mantras for Katrina, having been prevented from their chants due what Arnold and the CA Repubs prevented from happening in CA.
Egads, can you imagine if Katrina hadn't happened? Dems might have imploded with unspent agenda fury.
Rush is also a pro at what he does. I find it interesting you thought he came across in a Pat Buchanan manner. Can you be more explicit in sharing this with me, pls?
And he darned well better!
America has been in dire need of REAL news people and journalists and investigators instead of the past 30 years of Dem party hacks passing themselves off as "objective".
There's real work to be done in America, cleaning up after Liberals.
