This is the worst possible public relations nightmare on several levels for any University and will affect this school for a very, very long time. I wonder how all the alumni from Duke have reacted to this entire mess too? I bet Duke is going to have a very difficult time getting donations from any alumni in the future, period. Pardon my french, but Duke University has screwed themselves.

Frankly, they should consider filing suit against the president and many of the faculty of Duke University as well.

Absolutely. The faculty and administration at Duke acted horribly.

You can bet these kids will have pit bull attorneys who will follow the money.

Yes they will and rightly so.

I predict a minimum of $50 million each for the directly accused, plus settlements for the entire team of $2 to $5 million (each tem member). That's the suit against Duke itself.

But it doesn't end there.

I'd file separate suits against "the accuser", against Nifong, and libel suits against the "80 professors" as individuals and as a group.

These people might as well write-off the remainder of their financial lives. They are toast.

And maybe, hopefully, universities and colleges throughout America will begin to see the literal destructiveness of their out-of-control left-wing tenured faculties.

I hope those kids sue and win every dime the state has.

About damned time. Now who's going to reimburse the families for the huge debt they've incurred for legal bills?

I would expect that the taxpayers of Durham county will after the lawsuits have been filed. It is pretty evident that the DA acted with malice and they are not shielded from civil lawsuits in that case.

Try googling one of their names and you'll see what NC was talking about.

Paybacks will be a bitch, the city, the college, the accuser, ect, I hope they all get hammered.

You mentioned the college, I'm sure that includes all the prof. who slandered and maligned them as well. The ones who signed the petition.

So, will the lawyers for the defendants file the suit right after the hearing, or will they wait a suitable time, like until the next morning?

I hope they proceed apace, and with alacrity.

"I hope those kids sue and win every dime the state has."

Let's keep it confined to Durham County and Duke University, okay? There are taxpayers and entities in North Carolina that have nothing to do with this case, and we shouldn't be held financially responsible. Thankyouverymuch.

Google will for any prospective employer who does a search for the rest of their lives.

They can change the spelling of their legal names in probate court for $25.

But given the many, many $$$ millions they are going to rightfully collect from Duke, I don't think this will be a huge problem. They won't be out looking for "employers".

However your argument would be (will be) a fine one once the civil suits begin.

Just one more bill for Duke to pay.

And they will. Guaranteed.

I truly do believe that Nifong has a mental disorder.

I do too.

How about refunding all the money that the families spent defending their innocent family members ... with interest

The county's taxpayers ought to be the ones on the hook for it.

Efficiency would suggest they have the process servers ready to go after the hearing.
