Man Who Played Jesus Christ in TURK-7 Easter Broadcast Martyred

By Dan Wooding
Founder of ASSIST Ministries

EASTON, MD (ANS) — The man who brought Jesus to life in a recent Easter stage play televised on TURK-7 was the victim of a brutal and fatal attack.

According to a spokesperson for SAT-7, “Necati Aydin, husband and father of two young children, was one of three men brutally murdered on April 18 in far eastern Turkey in what many believe is a crime motivated by religious hatred. The three were workers at a Christian publishing house in the city of Malatya. Aydin was also an amateur actor and was featured in TURK-7’s Easter-season programming just a week before the tragedy.”
Said Terence Ascott, the SAT-7 CEO said, “This is truly a sad week for Christians.”

TURK-7 broadcasts on SAT-7 PARS, which is part of the Christian satellite network created by and for the people of the Middle East and North Africa. “We are praying for the families, for the Church, and for the nation of Turkey that God will bring some good out of this terrible tragedy. Aydin, a man who portrayed Jesus on one of our broadcasts, was himself the target of religious hatred simply because he worked so that others would have a chance to understand the story of Christ in Turkish.”

TURK-7 is an indigenous Turkish television ministry that broadcasts four hours a day on SAT-7’s Farsi and Turkish channel. Christians make up less than one percent of the population of Turkey.

“The whole Christian community here in Turkey is shocked by the horrific way these men were murdered. Our team is also truly saddened and upset,” said David Middleton, TURK-7 executive director.

According to Middleton, many Turkish believers fear that the killings could represent an escalating trend of attacks on Christians.

“We hope that our broadcasts will help calm people’s fears. Television is a way to give support to those Christians who are isolated, to give a sense of community so believers can be encouraged in the Lord no matter where they are and what crises they may face,” said Mr. Middleton.

SAT-7 seeks to encourage and support the local Christian community and also to help all viewers come to a better understanding of Christianity, thereby dispelling many false stereotypes about the faith commonly held in parts of the Middle East. SAT 7’s Arabic channel has broadcasted several programs that encourage dialogue, understanding, and peaceful co-existence between the major faiths of the region and the broadcaster hopes TURK-7 will carry similar programs in the future.

ABOUT SAT-7

SAT-7 is a Christian satellite network created by and for the people of the Middle East and North Africa. Christians make up approximately four percent of the Middle East, down from about 20 percent in the year 1900. SAT-7’s programs help equip the churches of this minority Christian community and provide the wider non-Christian audience a better understanding of the beliefs and teachings of Christ. Each week between nine and ten million people watch the channels in Arabic, Farsi, and Turkish (Intermedia research, 2004-2005), and those numbers are growing in many countries. In 2005, nearly 40,000 people responded to SAT-7 broadcasts by contacting counseling centers located across the Middle East and Europe. SAT-7 can be viewed via satellite in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, and much of Central Asia. Programming can also be watched worldwide at www.SAT7.org. Through locally produced Arabic and Farsi children’s programming, talk shows, teaching programs, music, serial dramas, and documentaries, SAT-7 provides large audiences with a unique opportunity to hear an accurate presentation of Christian truths in their own language through programming created by their own people. Launched in 1996, SAT-7 is a Christian television service by and for the people of the Middle East and North Africa and has its U.S. headquarters in Easton, Md. Debbie Brink is the USA executive director.

Dan Wooding is an award winning British journalist now living in Southern California with his wife Norma. He is the founder and international director of ASSIST (Aid to Special Saints in Strategic Times) and the ASSIST News Service (ANS). He was, for ten years, a commentator, on the UPI Radio Network in Washington, DC. Wooding is the author of some 42 books, the latest of which is his autobiography, “From Tabloid to Truth”, which is published by Theatron Books. History of Jihad against the Egyptian Coptic Christians (640-655)
islam-watch ^ | 22 Apr, 2007 | History of Jihad

Posted on 04/21/2007 8:35:12 PM PDT by Islamwatch

How the Jihadis vandalized this ancient land and wiped out Christianity as well as the ancient culture of Egypt – leaving only the massive Pyramids and the Sphinx as mute witness to the glory of pre-Islamic Egypt.

The heritage and legacy of the Copts and their ancestors the ancient Egyptians continue to be manifested all over the world in every day life in the use of the Gregorian calendar, a descendant of the ancient Egyptian solar calendar. The Coptic name of ancient Egypt “ Chimie” has lent itself to the modern Chemistry. Ancient Egypt continues to provide inspiration for cotemporary mystics and followers of new age beliefs. Modern artists continue to be inspired by ancient Egypt. In recent years, architects have taken renewed interest in Egypt and the forms of its stylishly pyramid, continue to be applied to many public and commercial buildings.

Pakistan music shops blown up

Because they’re “un-Islamic.” Islamic law forbids music (cf. ‘Umdat al-Salik r40.1), although this law has of course often been ignored. There is some terrific music created in the Islamic world. And of course there was beginning in the Fifties an Islamic vogue in American jazz, with prominent musicians — Art Blakey (Abdullah ibn Buhaina), Yusef Lateef — converting to Islam. Of course music can be and has been used as a vehicle for da’wah: this excellent 1970 recording takes its name from an imprecation against the unbelievers in Qur’an 2:18.

But the law remains — it has never been reformed or rejected by any significant Islamic authority. Consequently it can always be reasserted, as here.

From AFP, with thanks to Sr. Soph:

PESHAWAR, Pakistan - A homemade bomb blew up three video and music shops in a market in northwest Pakistan where hardliners believe the businesses are un-Islamic, police said Sunday.
The blast happened late Saturday in Swabi, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) northeast of Peshawar, the capital of the deeply conservative North West Frontier Province bordering Afghanistan, they said.

“It destroyed one shop and partially damaged two others, but there were no casualties as the market was closed,” local police chief Fazal Elahi Badshah told AFP.

The blast occurred in the Gulzada Market, which has some 80 shops of CDs, DVDs, tape recorders and also houses groups of bands usually hired to perform in wedding ceremonies, residents said.

Islamic hardliners who say music and movies are un-Islamic have dubbed the shopping complex the “Hell market,” they said, adding that some shopkeepers had received warning letters in the past.

The province has seen previous attacks on video and music shops blamed on extremists emulating the ultra-orthodox Taleban, who ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001.

Thanks for the feedback TWhiteBear.

OPINION: As I post/point to these articles, I always welcome finding “moderate” muslims responses. I also look forward to posts from the same.

Either I’m deaf and blind, or the majority of the “moderate” muslims have no response to these incidents.

First high school in Northwest geared to Muslim students to open
The Oregonian ^ | April 22, 2007 | Associated Press

Posted on 04/22/2007 3:27:39 PM PDT by CedarDave

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Mounting pressures from Muslim parents in the region have prompted the Muslim Educational Trust to open the new coeducational Oregon Islamic Academy - the first high school in the Northwest geared to Muslim students.

Syed Ahmad was one of those parents. He told Wajdi Said, the trust’s executive director, that he moved his family from Texas to Oregon for work and they lived in Tigard to be close to the Muslim Educational Trust’s prekindergarten to eighth grade Islamic School. But he told Wajdi that he’d take his family back to Texas to attend an Islamic high school unless one opened here.

The academy’s mission is “to shape the minds and hearts of its students according to the teachings of the Holy Quran and the traditions of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH),” the parenthetical phrase an abbreviation for “Praise Be Unto Him.”

Said explained that will come in rigorous classes of math, science, history, language arts, Arabic and other courses to prepare students to excel in college as inquisitive learners, and caring and moral adults who are proud of their Islamic beliefs.

“Hopefully they will be part of the success of America in the 21st century,” he said.

The educational trust’s school has 20 preschoolers. There are 89 K-8 students and a waiting list of 260.

Projections, according to Said, show the high school will open with six freshmen in September. School officials plan to grow to a ninth-12th grade program and add three buildings, including a computer science laboratory. Boys and girls will attend class together, and girls will have the option of wearing the hijab head covering.

The school will be open to students of any faith, Said explained, and all will study comparative religions so they can be leaders in the nation’s pluralistic society.

Gunmen stop bus carrying Christians, Yazidis in northern Iraq, kill 23
All of the dead appear to be Yazidis, apparently killed in revenge after a Yazidi woman who converted to Islam was stoned to death by relatives. In response, the gunmen killed 23 Yazidis, and one can’t rule out further reprisals. “Gunmen kill 23 from tiny sect in Iraq,” by Lauren Frayer for The Associated Press:

BAGHDAD - Gunmen in northern Iraq stopped a bus filled with Christians and members of a tiny, mostly Kurdish religious sect on Sunday, police said, separating out the groups and taking 23 of the passengers away to be shot.
The attack came on a violent day in Baghdad, with at least 20 people killed in car bombings, most in a double suicide strike against a police station in a religiously mixed neighborhood.

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, on a tour abroad to ask the Arab world’s Sunni-led governments to help his struggling government stop the violence in Iraq, said he told Egypt’s president that Iraq’s reality is “not a civil or sectarian war.”

Police said the execution-style killings of the Yazidis — a primarily Kurdish sect that worships an angel figure considered to be the devil by some Muslims and Christians — appeared to be in response to the stoning death of a Yazidi woman who had recently converted to Islam.

In the northern Iraq killings, armed men in several cars stopped the bus as it was carrying workers from the Mosul Textile Factory to their hometown of Bashika, which has a mixed population of Christians and Yazidis.

The gunmen checked passengers’ identification, then asked the Christians to get off the bus, said police Brig. Mohammed al-Wagga.

With the Yazidis still inside, the gunmen drove them to eastern Mosul, where they were lined up along a wall and shot to death, al-Wagga said.

After the killings, hundreds of Yazidis took to the streets of Bashika, a town in Ninevah province that is 80 percent Yazidi, 15 percent Christian and about five percent Muslim. Shops were shuttered and many Muslims closed themselves in their homes, fearing reprisal attacks.

Abdul-Karim Khalaf, a provincial police spokesman said the executions were in response to the killing two weeks ago of a Yazidi woman who had recently converted to Islam after she fell in love with a Muslim and ran off with him.
Disapproving relatives dragged her back to Bashika, where she was stoned to death, he said. A grainy video showing gruesome scenes of the stoning was distributed on Iraqi Web sites in recent weeks.

A Muslim man who said he released from the bus with six Christians said 10 gunmen stopped the vehicle, then ordered the driver to steer it into a narrow alley, where they ordered the passengers off and separated them according to their identification cards, which indicate the holders’ religion.

“Then they asked the Yazidis to get back on the bus. The gunmen started to shout ‘God curse your devil’ and they were telling the Yazidis that ‘It is not your business if the woman decided to convert to Islam,” said the passenger, Mustafa Ali Mustafa.
