You accuse me of not upholding a dialog, this exchange between you and me has gone on since post#1645 when you interjected yourself on a response I made to restornu.
The entire theme of this dialog was how a person can tell a true spiritual experience from a self-induced one.
So your whole ad-hominem assault was totally uncalled for.
I’m starting to think, though, that the Mormons want confusion on these threads so that no one can make sense of them.
Did I hit a button? Can you not let go? The thrill of the argument must really be nagging at you.
And the block changes happened decades ago, not 2000. But 3 hours of meetings for recreationists on the Sabbath kinda cramps their styles I would imagine.
As a teenager in South Eastern Missouri, our branch met in a converted saloon on Main street. Those were find memories as well! BTW, doesn't panguitch also have a rich heritage of Butch Cassidy the outlaw?

Then you apparently know better than God. He has encouraged us to fast to help gain humility, spirituality, and knowledge from Him through the Holy Ghost. If this is repugnant to you, that’s your choice, but fasting is a great source of spiritual blessing, and is a gift from God. I’ll take His advice over yours if you don’t mind.

It might be interesting for you to know that when I was a youngster, Priesthood meeting started at 9:00 and Sunday School at 10:00. Then you went home and ate a huge lunch of roast or fried chicken (that mom had prepared that morning) and came back at 2:00 for Sacrament meeting.
There was only one ward per building back then. Relief Society was held on Tuesdays, and MIA on Tuesday nights. Primary was on Wednesday. During summer at 10:00 in the morning, during school at 3:00 in the afternoon.
Circleville is the home of Butch Cassidy....it’s 28 miles from Panguitch. However, Butch obviously had a history in Panguitch.
My daughter lived in Arnold, Missouri for several years. She was on the brink of the Ozarks. It sounds as if you were in the heart of them. I’m surprised you survived the extermination order (LOL.)
I lived in Doniphan Mo., ironically, the same town that was named after the general who refused to murder Joseph Smith. There was a definite lingering of the feelings of animosity toward’s the Church, but far from extermination. ;-)
This was a "special" recreation branch. There were only three in existence at the time. (Late 90's) One was near Snow Canyon/St. George area.
There were meetings held with the hierarchy to determine how these branches should operate in light of the fact that hundreds of people attended each week as 'visitors.' There really are no "branch members" so to speak. Even the Branch Presidency has their own home wards (usually in Panguitch)where their membership records are retained.
Anyway, there was a proposal to make a large, open, log-type structure for the fishermen/biker/camper crowd that congregate on Sunday as visitors. Eventually the LDS corp. squelched the idea, and built the same stucco, foot-print of chapels all across the world. When it was held in the A-Frame there was just a one hour Sacrament Meeting. After the Chapel was built they switched to the 'block' schedule.
As I said it was unique. It still IS unique, but the spirituality of the services has died, and it has become as boring as the regular Church meeting held elsewhere on Sunday. Perhaps it was these experiences of heightened spirituality that helped me to see my way out of Mormonism. Once the organization killed the Spirit, it was all down hill from there.
My guess as to the program being changed is that too many people were abusing it to use it as an excuse to be able to not keep the Sabbath Day holy. If they could go to church for an hour and then go boating, fishing, skiing, etc, that would justify it in their minds. This is contrary to the Gospel, and my guess is that the Church nipped it in the bud when it became evident it was being abused by passing through members that way. That's my suspicion anyway...
Well, that's the interesting point. These people were on vacation and probably would not have attended services at all. Especially if they would have had to travel 30 miles to do so. The branch started in response to people who didn't want to miss taking the sacrament. For over 20 years it operated as a very spiritual, moving way to partake of the ordinance while members of the Church were on vacation. It also functioned as an effective missionary tool.
I'm quite sure you are right, by golly. The hierarcy needed to crack down on all those Sabbath breakers. LOL
See seven, this is the vast difference between Christianity and being under the thumb of Mormon obedience, but perhaps you still don't recognize the difference between being under the "law" and being free in Christ.
Seven this wasn’t an “out in the boonies” priesthood abuse. This was a Church sanctioned Branch. Why are you grasping at straws.
I understand if you don’t want to believe me. Where are you? Ask around. My uncle who is in the Branch Presidency lives in Payson, my brother in Panguitch. One of the former Branch Presidents is John W. Yardley....google him. This wasn’t an abuse. Come on now!
