Nifong Issues Apology to Ex-Lacrosse Players

Durham — The local prosecutor who charged three Duke lacrosse players with raping a stripper apologized Thursday, acknowledging the decision of state prosecutors to dismiss all charges against them was correct.

"To the extent that I made judgments that ultimately proved to be incorrect, I apologize to the three students that were wrongly accused," Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong said in a statement.

Typical non-apology apology. Insufficient. I hope the players sue him—perhaps it will serve as a warning to other dishonorable prosecutors.

The legal costs are estimated at $1 million per student. A jury trial with a nice punitive award, also, would be nice.

“...that were wrongly accused.” Right. He uses the passive tense, as if the libelous accusation of rape came out of the sky, like a bolt of lightning.

Nifong, the best way for you to apologize not only to the players, but to your wife and daughter, is to crawl into a hole and pull your rock in after you. Join the French Foreign Legion (the nom de guerre “Sac d’Engrais” fits you) so they can forget you ever existed.

Make this as big and punitive as it can get..........and a little jail time wouldn't be out of order either.

When this was discussed on our local talk radio they said when they presented the photo lineup to the hook excuse me accuser they only presented photos of the the lacrosse players. They did not throw any photos of known innocents.

Someone in NC needs to go over every single case that Nifong's office has handled to ensure that no innocent people were wrongly convicted of any crime. Nifong himself must be prosecuted because the handling of this case could not possibly be the result of negligence. Any honest lawyer would have dropped these charges long ago due to lack of evidence and witness credibility issues. The only possible explanation for this conduct must be malice.

The second sad part of this (after the three guys and their parents went through 13 months of Hell) will be the taxpayers having to fork over money to have EVERY case Nifong's office ever touched. The taint will cost millions, go on for years, and increase the burden on their legal system. What ever the local government pays to the boys will be peanuts compared to the other bill.

I am ticked at Nifong,but I am also ticked at the coward who refuses to prosecute that black woman who started this whole thing.

She deserves jail time too.

Also where is Jesse jackson and Al Sharptons apology,and where is the apology of the 88 idiot professors.

I hope they never get another good nights sleep after trying to hang these young men.

Two things that make my post meaningless.

The professors could care less. They dont have a conscience among them, and the black girl would never get convicted in Carolina as long as one black was on the jury.
