Thread 4

Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has fought a global war against violent extremists who use terrorism as their weapon of choice, and who seek to destroy our free way of life. Our enemies seek weapons of mass destruction and, if they are successful, will likely attempt to use them in their conflict with free people everywhere. Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our nation and its interests around the globe for years to come. DOD

Our enemies include all the Muslims who dream of knocking Western Civilization off its perch atop humanity’s dung heap. Islam is fractured into any number of sects, tribes and ethnic groups, but the dream of destroying us cuts across all the fault lines. Islamic terrorists are merely the tip of a very large spear.

J. Peter Mulhern, the American Thinker, September 18

The determination behind that fight is real, the hatred is real, and the excuses for doing this are very real in the minds of those who have decided to walk that path. We can respond in two ways: Try to ignore or negotiate with people who do not want to negotiate in good faith, because what they want is our destruction, or to stand up against the darkness of those who see all of us, our way of life, our culture and our aspirations as something worth eliminating.

Either: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Or: "With vigilance, determination, courage, we will defeat the enemies of freedom, and we will leave behind a more peaceful world for our children and our grandchildren." GW Bush.

Here's where I will post news and info about the Long War. Let me know if you're interested.

Lucy's at work but I'll give it a go.

I'm horrible at giving advice to folks - it seems to always go wrong.

On the other side though, I'm with you on not wanting to hold my nose and settle. I seems we have to do that more and more. I also want more principal on the hill.

Pelosi’s trip to the ME wasn’t to undermine the President, it was to set-up strategic alliances with the terrorists. This will allow the SurrenderKrats to make concessions behind closed doors and appear to be successful with their law enforcement style of terror-fighting (IF they can win the WH). Tinfoil Hat theory of the day. LOL! Not sure that I actually believe this but the DemonRats are able to surprise me every day it seems with an idiocy that knows no bounds.

Al-Qaida in Gaza has a message.

Palestinians: Al-Qaeda Attacked School

Palestinian Authority officials have blamed al-Qaeda for an attack on a school celebration, in part because the terrorists believed that girls and boys would dance together at the event. They allege that AQ has established a foothold in Gaza, and more attacks will follow:

Palestinian Authority security officials accused supporters of al-Qaida in the Gaza Strip of carrying out Sunday’s attack on a UNRWA-run school in Rafah in which one person was killed and six others were wounded.
“There is no doubt that al-Qaida is operating in the Gaza Strip,” a senior PA security official said. “Today’s attack carries the fingerprints of al-Qaida.”

Witnesses told The Jerusalem Post that at least 70 Muslim fundamentalists participated in the attack on the Omariya School, where UNRWA and PA officials were attending a celebration.

The director of UNRWA operations in the Gaza Strip, John Ging, was inside the school at the time. He was not hurt, as PA policemen whisked him away to a safe location.

Despite lobbing grenades and opening fire with automatic weapons, the attackers only managed to kill one person. They had organized the attack, according to witnesses, in significant numbers. Perhaps as many as 70 terrorists took part in the operation, and they continued to attack the vehicles fleeing the school.

Analysts believe that the terrorists belong to an AQ-affiliated Salafist group, rather than Hamas. They have conducted an increasing level of attacks on Gaza targets over the last two years. They typically target schools, Internet cafés, hair salons, and the like, and this school fits the profile.

While they share an Islamist philosophy, they apparently also share a lunatic desire to kill everyone who doesn’t agree with them on all points. The Salafists or Wahhabis want rule by imams and shari’a law, and violently disagree with the political involvement of Hamas and the PA altogether. The AQ groups have assassinated Hamas figures, and Hamas has returned the favor.

Attacking schools is what the radical Islamists did in Beslan. This time they failed to do much damage, but the situation in Gaza since the exit of the Israelis has seriously deteriorated, and the West cannot pretend much longer that they have a nascent staging ground for AQ attacks. Even the Palestinians have begun to figure that much out.

Sounds like liberals.

Seriously though, I hope more and more people see the truth about Islam. The religeon of peace through murder.

Apropos of absolutely nothing —

Happened to turn around and glance at the tv in time to see this little gem on the FoxNews ‘crawl’....

Paris Hilton was, according to FNC, “... convicted of wreckless driving....”

Evidently, the journey to totalitarianism is now complete — EVERYTHING is ‘illegal’.....

A bit more on the school attack.

UN beefs up security after Gaza attack (attack on school)
Yahoo News ^ | May 06 2007 | DIAA HADID

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Security was beefed up at the main U.N. compound in Gaza City on Monday, with workers reinforcing the entrance gate and snipers inspecting the roof after a shadowy group of Muslim extremists attacked a U.N.-run school.

Sunday’s incident, which killed one and wounded seven, is part of Gaza’s out-of-control lawlessness that is increasingly aimed at foreigners. Most foreigners have left Gaza, and the latest attack on the U.N. was seen as a major escalation.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attack in the southern Gaza refugee camp of Rafah, but security officials said they believe “salafiyeen,” or Muslim fundamentalists, were involved. The group is believed to be behind a string of attacks on Internet cafes and music shops in recent weeks. It is not clear whether they are connected to any political party.

The latest incident underscored the inability of the new Palestinian unity government, a coalition of the Islamic militant Hamas and the Fatah movement of moderate Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, to end the chaos.

Abbas and Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas met late Sunday in another attempt to put together a security plan. The meeting ended without agreement, and another was set for Monday.

Interior Minister Hani Kawasmeh, the author of the plan, has threatened to resign because security commanders refuse to cooperate, mainly because of rivalries between coalition partners Hamas and Fatah.

New statistics illustrated the sharp increase in internal violence in Gaza.

In the first three months of this year, 147 Gazans, including 10 children, were killed by fellow Palestinians, according to the Palestinian human rights group Al-Mezan. By comparison, 57 people died in factional fighting in all of 2004, followed by 101 in 2005 and 252 last year.

If the upward spiral is not stopped, Gaza could become ungovernable, warned Ibrahim Ibrach, a political scientist at Gaza’s al-Azhar University. “The collapse of the Palestinian Authority ... is at stake,” he said.

Sunday’s attack on the U.N. school in the southern Gaza refugee camp of Rafah began with a protest by Muslim extremists in long robes, who said a sports festival the school was hosting was un-Islamic. The U.N. “is turning schools into nightclubs,” read one sign held up by the protesters.

At one point, the group tried to enter the school. Palestinian security fired in the air to keep them away. In the ensuing chaos, at least one bomb was thrown into the school, and a gun battle followed.

A senior Fatah official, Majed Abu Shamaleh, was leaving the school when his bodyguard was killed. Seven people were wounded, most by bomb fragments. Some children hid under their chairs during the fighting.

Police arrested two of the gunmen and were interrogating them. Later, the extremists tried to approach the police station where the two suspects were being held, to release the men. Police and gunmen from militant factions surrounded the station to prevent the extremists from entering, witnesses said.

So-called salafiyeen are known through the Muslim world as fundamentalists who try to imitate their pious ancestors and recreate the lifestyle of Islam’s founder, the Prophet Muhammad. Most are peaceful, but some engage in violence.

A Palestinian intelligence official said the Gaza group appeared determined to attack all those who don’t agree with its strict ideology. Other fundamentalist groups have existed in the same area of southern Gaza for years, but live in their own communities and peacefully preach their beliefs, he said.

“What’s new is that this group, which seems to have developed a few years ago, believes in violence if they see things they believe is wrong,” the official said. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.

He said the group has no more than dozens of members, but could easily grow as disaffected youths abandon the two largest political groups, Hamas and Fatah.

I personally appreciate your thoughts. I’m going to keep as far as possible from even remotely giving the impression that I’m trying to steer anyone to a particular candidate. I will, however, provide current information available for the candidates and likely candidates for the primaries.
