But shouldn’t have been, given that there were only 2 people shot and it appeared to be just an interpersonal conflict involving the shooter, his target, and one person who tried to intervene. Locking down a 2600 acre campus with 25,000 students in that scenario wouldn’t be reasonable — but they absolutely should have sent out an alert with basic info on what had happened, and the fact that the shooter was still on the loose, and a PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE SHOOTER (which apparently wasn’t even included with the message that finally went out 2 hours late).

I hope that some heads will roll there because of the incompetence of the response. Granted they may have not fully grasped the magnitude of what was happening, but still.

Has Gov. Tim Kaine said anything yet? I briefly heard Bill Bolling, the Lt. Governor, on FOX a while ago. He's a Republican and seems to be a good guy.

You must be 21 to legally posess a handgun

And, since you also must be 21 to drink legally, there should be few guns and few drunks on any given college campus. I mean, c'mon--students break the law? Are you mad??!

One thing I don't get, Texas, in light of what occurred today..."Guns on campus with a bunch of drunk students?"...how many of the folks killed today do you suppose were drunk? I'm betting none of 'em, but they sure are dead. Maybe one of their fellow students, had they been armed and sober, could have taken the POS shooter out and saved a few lives.

For that to have happened, I guess guns would have to be allowed on campus.

Granite Conservative posted a picture of the girlfriend, but I think it's smart to wait until the dead perp is identified.

I assume Facebook already shut down his/her site already

Yes, Hindrichs! Big cover up not only of the incident but of the huge jihadist hate-America group he was associated with in OKC.

IMHO, this was a cover-up as well as the OKC bombing, McVeigh and Nichols and the middle-eastern man in the Ryder truck.

Don’t want to jump to conclusions but it was interesting that all the news broadcast immediately stated the shootings were not terrorist related without even knowing who the shooter is...so who is jumping to conclusions?

I apologize to you for the misunderstanding.

And I apologize as well, not pertinent to the thread and I was off topic....

Just announced Gonzales testimony tomorrow before Congress has been cancelled.
After all can’t have his testimony on a day when the media is not going to be paying attention.

%%%%%%

So true!!!! They are becoming more transparent by the day!

UN-fortunately a school is a prohibited zone in VA. The gun has to be unloaded and left in a car.

In the Texas Tower shooting the shooter was eventually stopped from shooting anymore because hunters with their rifles in the trunks of their cars kept him pinned down until the cops got rifles from local gun stores.

My prayers for the students and their families.

Can you imagine if the students had the right to be in a college gun club, and also carry their guns in a brief case or back pack. Someone may have stopped the killing a whole lot earlier.

For years I've asked for an "ignore" button...

Long overdue.
-- Best of all, a 'bozo button' would stop most all of these controversies over just who is being 'abusive'.
-- Those who's stock in trade way to end arguments; -- is to claim 'abuse', - could bozo their opponents, instead of whining to the mods.

“unpredictable act”?

Don't hold your breath. But the police ran the name of a Mohammad Jabiz for driver's license info over the radio.

Could be a wounded victim or witness, too. ~ archy

The university I attended could not be “locked down” Several major thoroughfares run through the campus. There are also private residences and private businesses scattered through the campus proper.

A lock down on the dormitories could be done by the campus cops. But the area and the layout of the entire campus would be improbable in less than a few hours.

I do not know if the VT campus has a similar layout.

They can’t ID the shooter because he shot himself in the face. Given how psychotic this guy was, I’m sure he saw his girlfriend in the face of every student he shot.

The bomb threat was the test. The first shooting, the decoy

That's how I see it, too.

” They are now reporting he shot himself in the back of the head, which would likely disfigure his face and ID.”

Is that accurate? I know you are just probably quoting reports coming out, but when does a suicide shoot himself in IN THE BACK OF HIS HEAD! Temple, mouth or chest yes but back of head sounds like a crock to me.

The police haven’t released a name yet and that is really suspicious to me. If he was a Tim McVeigh (read disgruntled white loner) type. The FBI would be interviewing his parents by now and Katie would be on non-stop about who he was.

Move along nothing to see here. Keep moving. Go about your business.

FBI says, "not act of terrorism”.

What the HELL? 33 dead and not an act of terrorism? The Heck it ain't!

A more accurate FBI Statement would have been, "Not an act of state sponsored or radical muslim terrorism".
