This is why, when I was in college, I ignored the gun laws prohibiting me from toting onto campus. I only leave my gun in the car if I think there's a metal detector.

I was XO at Radford AAP in 1974 when the TNT plant blew up and we had over 130 injured. I also was a member of one of the rescue squads.

A person with the will, a lot of ammo, a crowded compacted area such as a classroom/hall and no worries about other people shooting back can do a lot of damage.
Possible ... but if its like here in Texas which allows alot in the way of firearms and concreal and carry ... firearms are still illegal on state property and places where alcohol is sold. I am curious if the Corps at Virginia Tech has any type of armory or weapons. Like my alma mater; Texas A&M, Virginia Tech has an active Corps of Cadets and proud military history.
Most college security guards aren’t armed—It wouldn’t have made a difference. The only thing that could have mediated this event would be the presence of armed civilians.

There apparently weren’t any members of the Cadet Corps around. If there had been, the casualty numbers would be far lower — although they might be comprised entirely of cadets. Every cadet I knew would have crawled through broken glass on the bloody stumps of their legs to kill the shooter with their bare hands rather than let something like this happen.
If everyone were “packin” then Criminals would be DEAD before the police could get there. There would be a WHOLE lot less casualties, Criminals would be FAR less bold, in fact, I think crime would go DOWN. WAY down.
