Killer's Note: 'You Caused Me to Do This'
ABC News ^ | 4/17/07

Posted on 04/17/2007 9:51:27 AM PDT by areafiftyone

April 17, 2007 — Cho Seung-Hui, the 23-year-old student who killed 32 people and then himself yesterday, left a long and "disturbing" note in his dorm room at Virginia Tech, say law enforcement sources.

Sources have now described the note, which runs several pages, as beginning in the present tense and then shifting to the past tense. It contains rhetoric explaining Cho's actions and says, "You caused me to do this," the sources told ABC News.

Sources say Cho killed two people in a dorm room, returned to his own dorm room where he re-armed and left the note, then went to a classroom building on the other side of campus. There, he killed 30 more people in four classrooms before shooting himself in the head.

Cho, born in South Korea, was a legal resident alien of the United States. He was a senior at Virginia Tech, majoring in English.

Sources tell ABC News Cho bought his first gun, a Glock 9 millimeter handgun, on March 13; they say he bought his second weapon, a .22 caliber pistol, within the last week. The serial numbers on both guns had been filed off, they said.

Authorities found the receipt for the 9 millimeter handgun in his backpack. They say it also contained two knives and additional ammunition for the two guns.

Legal permanent resident aliens may purchase firearms in the state of Virginia. A resident alien must, however, provide additional identification to prove he or she is a resident of the state.

Sections of chain similar to those used to lock the main doors at Norris Hall, the site of the second shooting that left 31 dead, were also found inside a Virginia Tech dormitory, sources confirmed to ABC News.

That rumor was false.

Just like I'm sure 99.8% of the last 24-hours of breathless internet speculation will be revealed to be.

Sorry - 8 hours between the first shot fired and the time police found him.

Immaterial - he clearly intended to kill himself, not escape. He had ample escape opportunities and didn't take them. He intended to die that day and there was no reason from his standpoint to file the serials.

Then if you pronounce it in Korean, it comes out “Kolan”. Good Grief, we have an IT professional gone berserk!!

The Cisco made him do it.

We’ll get bits and pieces and the Ismail reference will ultimately be dismissed as a nod to “Moby Dick”...We’ve seen this movie before.

Yeah. Heathers.

I found dozens of Islamic sites that use the name Ismail and Ishmael interchangeably.

The guy had it written on his arm in red ink...definitely a weirdo, but the link to Islam is pretty evident, IMHO.

I’m not saying he was anything more than a lone whacko, but I do believe he was influenced by Islam. As I said in another post, what “normal” college student uses the words “charlatans” and “debauchery.”

Al-Zawahiri calls Bush a charlatan in this speech:

http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/09/29/zawahiri.tape/

and there’s lots of talk of debauchery on Islamic sites...but the debauchery reference might be in used in almost any religious context, but charlatan...who calls people charlatans?

This does not sound terrorist related. It sounds more like a very sick young man

Either-Or thinking. He was both. Most terrorists are very sick young men.

8 hours between the first shot fired and the time police found him.

Also not true, try 'under four'. They found him as soon as they entered the building.

Interesting stuff re Ibrahim in the Koranic story. I’d love to know what they find in Cho’s computer.

I think he just went mad and went off.

Before or after filing the serial numbers off of the pistols?

Something is awry here, methinks.

Maybe the person who sold it to him wanted to have it be untraceable.

I noticed that he wrote “you caused me to do this”. How could the parents not notice that he needed serious help? Sure he was a young adult, but crikey, what is family for but to tell you what you need to hear?

The guy who sold one of the weapons posted about selling it on the net yesterday afternoon. He was relieved that all of his paperwork was in order.

"He was able to roam around unmolested by law enforcement or security from 7:30 until he killed himself almost 8 hours later."

He killed himself sometime before 10:15AMET.

'Law enforcement didn't even figure out what his name was until almost 24 hours later."

They knew his name in less than a 1/2 hr after he killed himself and were at the gun store where he bought the guns in about an hour later.

"If his intent was to kill his girlfriend and escape, he could have hopped in a car at 7:30 and taken an international flight out of DC or even Atlanta before they even knew who they were looking for."

I don't think it was his g/f. The g/f's immediate ex is someone else.

Ismail Ax might turn into something else at anagrams.com....I think that’s the name of the old site that everyone used.

” He was relieved that all of his paperwork was in order.”

They’ll find a proper noun not capitalized and charge him.

Surprised to find actual truth on Wikipedia. You know damn well that PhMRA, GSK or Lilly aren’ going to point out how many people just magically decide to start killing themselves or others when they start taking SSRIs. Unfortunately, Islam creates the same affect now so we have to find out whether the spree killers are muslims or taking SSRIs
