Democratic Race Tightens as Views of Clinton Become More Negative
The Gallup Poll ^ | April 18, 2007 | Jeffrey M. Jones

Posted on 04/18/2007 7:56:37 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

A majority of Americans have an unfavorable image of New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination. Clinton's current 45% favorable rating with the American public is her third consecutive reading below 50% in the past two months, and is one of the lowest Gallup has measured for her since 1993. The recent decline in her image appears to be broad-based, as it is evident among most key subgroups. Even after her image first showed signs of decline in early March, Clinton managed to maintain a healthy lead in Gallup's trial heat of Democratic preferences for the party's 2008 presidential nomination. However, the new poll shows her lead has shrunk to just five percentage points over Barack Obama.

Clinton Favorable Ratings on the Decline

Clinton is no doubt a formidable candidate for president. She is the best-known candidate of either party, is widely respected by members of her own party, and has been able to raise large sums of money to fund her presidential campaign. Despite these advantages, recent Gallup polling reveals a potential weakness in her rather low likability scores among the general public. In the latest USA Today/Gallup poll, conducted April 13-15, 2007, more Americans say they have an unfavorable (52%) than a favorable view (45%) of Clinton. Clinton's favorable rating has been below 50% in each of the last three Gallup Polls, after being consistently above that mark since June 2003. As recently as February, her favorable rating was a solid 58%.

The public must be starting to focus.

The only way my view of Hillary could be more negative would be if I was reading one of her X-Rays!

Interesting. My prediction: every time Obama opens his mouth to the press, he’ll lose another couple of points.

The guy is a dud. At least, what little I have heard or read about him.

The race is still her’s to lose. I think she will get the nomination. She will also pick Obama as her running mate. The MSM will go all out to demonize whoever the GOP nominates. It will all be very interesting indeed.

The same poll shows Giuliani back up to 35 percent. I am still waiting for that dramatic fall off the social conservatives are predicting. Thompson, meanwhile shows no increase in support in spite of all the buzz he has been getting. Time to coalesce behind Giuliani and move on to the general.

An interesting poll. Particularly when it was divided by race. Hillary - er, Mrs. Clinton - never had a favorable rating higher than 49% among whites, while her highest with non-whites was in the 60s and blacks in the high 80s. All of those favorable ratings have dropped at least 5 points.

Months ago, Rush said not to worry about HRC, her negatives are too high. People don’t like her.

Couple of days ago he says HRC has 80% chance of being elected president.

I never know whether to believe the polls. Which version of Rush is right?

I hope this poll is right and she has big time negative poll ratings.

I noticed you’ve been doing some troll cleaning.

This guy right here is just about as bad as the writeblock guy that you zotted earlier today.

He’s on nearly every Fred Thompson thread, telling us all how dumb we are and how we are just fools not to fall in line behind Rudy. It’s becoming rather ridiculous now. We all welcome healthy debate about candidates, but people like this only seek to undermine that healthy debate. If you can’t see enough evidence to convict, at least please keep an eye on this one.

Given the huge lead in money raising the RATS have it is becoming more important to stop the deflection of resources to losers and get behind Rudy. Hillary has raised almost as much as Mitt and Rudy combined last report I saw. She has twice as much as Rudy.
