I didn’t see any mention of firearms, flares, or PFD’s in the article. Maybe the reporter just didn’t ask. I wouldn’t leave the dock without all (3) items.

They boat has been in service for many years and the gentleman in the article is a well rounded skipper.

The young woman in the article has been living about for a year so should know the ropes pertty well.

Not a lot new here, other than the idea to stay out to sea.

The adventure has a website and support staff with SATCOM links to the vessel.

Look like it might be fun in some ways.

Or a short trip to the funny farm.

Crikey ... this is the freighter they hit. I wonder if it even felt a thing?

The captain broke one of the cardinal rules ... this does not bode well for them.

Did you read the blog ... they are still monkeying around with real-time weather data and asking for advice. Wouldn't you think they'd have had that nailed down before they left port?

Sorry to hear about their recent collision with the tanker. Their electronics must not include radar with audible alarm warnings for situations just like this. I might have the opportunity to crew a Beneteau 44 from the Chesapeake to Florida/Gulf Coast after the coming hurricane season, and I know it has this kind of electronics onboard.

they dont need radar as much as they need a radar receiver with alert.

I spent a couple years on boats when I was young and picked up my AB ticket. Ever since then I won't get on any kind of boat. I don’t even like looking at pictures of boats.

Still, I wish ‘em the best of luck. They are at least trying to push the envelope. No point sitting around the house all your life... we’ll be gone soon enough.

It’s going on 70 days and they’re still afloat!

I thought she might bail after they ran into that huge freighter while sleeping one night. Still, 7% down and they are out there, beats what I thought they would make it to. I flip over to their site every week or so, just to see if they have caught any fish yet. If they don’t expect some very skinny people at the end without resupplies.

Her parents may be hoping this is a test to see if they can get along well enough to get married when they come back.

I thought the accident might have been the end too ... but being in the trades now they can expend some of their energy into maintenance and yoga. They may make me a believer yet!

There was a thread about these people but it was so long ago they should be well out to sea by now.

Yes ... they hit THAT! May 6th, they spent some hairy time in rough seas repairing the bowsprit ..it’s now foreshortened and the staysail won’t work properly ...so I think they are traveling slower.
