'Hate Crimes' Bill Moving to Full House [Critics call it a "thought crimes" bill..........]

'Hate Crimes' Bill Moving to Full House By Susan Jones CNSNews.com Senior Editor April 26, 2007

(CNSNews.com) - The House Judiciary Committee passed a "hate crimes" bill Wednesday night, all 23 Democrats in favor, all 17 Republicans opposed. Every Republican attempt to amend the bill was defeated. Critics call it a "thought crimes" bill.

The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007 (H.R. 1592) would expand the federal definition of hate crimes to include violence against a person because of his or her "actual or perceived" sexual orientation or "gender identity."

Under the bill, people who attack others out of "hatred" for their race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability would be committing a federal offense.

The bill is now headed to the full House for a vote, probably next week.

Supporters of the bill, including homosexual activists, have described "hate crimes" as a pervasive problem. "The intentional selection and beating or murder of an individual because of who they are terrorizes an entire community and sometimes the nation," the Human Rights Campaign says on its website.

But conservatives say the bill would punish "thought," since most crimes are motivated by hatred. They say it offers special protection for certain groups.

"Despite what its advocates say, this is not about crime -- it's about special treatment," said the Family Research Council. "HR 1592 would further carve out 'tiers' of victims, putting more importance on crimes committed against a Rosie O'Donnell than against her next-door neighbor."

I’d be careful about physical attacks.

If I'm attacked TODAY, there's a law already in PLACE. If I'm attacked in the future, this law ADDS nothing to protect ME...If I'm one of "the Chosen" (that would be those whose special because this law SAYS SO is beyond reasonable OR necessary....This law is pure vote-buying by giving yet another special status to supposedly protect against un-politically-correct thought and speech, and to be used to gain FEDERAL Court status for cases that would otherwise be a LOCAL Court issue. Political pandering at its worst.....

Yes it's political pandering at it's worst, yes there are already laws on the books, but the bill doesn't set up special status for certain groups, the Chosen if you prefer. That's simply a fact.

Nevertheless ... popular or not, fodder for the homos or not, I still must believe it is a perversion. And I believe most people do, too.

Assuming it passes, you'd have to assault him after your rant for the law to kick in.

Not necessarily. In some recent cases, such as in Philadelphia, the argument has been successfully pushed that publicly speaking out against homosexuality may incite violence against homosexuals by merely creating an atmosphere of resistance. You can't read too far into this subject without hearing that argument ever more loudly made. This attitude has resulted in arrests in Canada and Sweden of ministers proclaiming Biblical values in their own churches.

That is more inflammatory rhetoric from me than anything as I am an old man who couldn't even mount a decent physical assault on a little old church lady.

Please take the time to read the enclosed article by Chuck Colson.

http://www.afa.net/colson050107.asp

This law does not define “sexual orientation,” leaving open the definition
of the term. To see all the behaviors covered by the term “sexual
orientation,” please click here.

Warning! This listing is offensive.

There is still time to make your voice heard. Please call your
representative in Washington today. The vote is scheduled for this
Thursday. Tell him or her that you strongly oppose the Hate Crimes
Act. Mr. Colson rightly refers to it as the Thought Control bill.

You can reach your representative at 202-224-3121. Please ask
your friends to call also.

Guess Glen Beck won’t be able to sing,

“I hate the French...
They have that eurpoean stench,
I’d like to hit them with a wrench..”

You said — “Warning! This listing is offensive.”

Whoa! I mean I thought that God made it all so simple, actually. But..., not according to some. Talk about a square peg..., etc..., my goodness...

You know what Gallagher said about sex...
“If it’s a pain in the butt, you’re doing it wrong”.

Nuff said.

If Bush doesn’t veto this cr@p, he’s no better than a democrat.

He’s been pretty consistent about this kind of thing. You have to admit this about him, he does have balls.
