Sarkozy’s positions on most issues are virtually indistinguishable from Guiliani’s.

Some differences due to specifics, of course, but he’s definitely not “right wing”

Apparently the one who won doesn’t hate us as much. One must look on the bright side.

The difference I think, like what we saw in England under Blair, is that one person does make a LOT of difference in the official attitude and decision.

The previous government/ruler/socialist? An enemy of the US.

Isn't Sabine a FReeper? I seem to remember her posting two years ago.

I guess I won't get any crap about my signature block today.

The french are the french, and we Brits don’t like or trust them either way....

Since I haven't seen that expressed for quite some time, I was beginning to think it had become old history.

"There were two possible outcomes today and this is the better of the two. It's that simple.",

ONLY, if Sarkozy delivers on his promise to reform immigration and force compliance with FRENCH law for all - INCLUDING the African and Middle Eastern Muslims who have been sucking at the public tit, flaunting the law, rioting and bitching while they copulate and, populate.

Remember how thrilled we were with our President Bush... We've since learned he was a one trick pony, who continues to "play nice" with our political and Islamist enemy....

The next Muslim riots will require blood in the streets and massive deportations to drive the "change" home...

Sarkozy takes French presidency
Guardian Unlimited - 19 minutes ago
The first results and exit polls from the French presidential election this evening today suggested that Nicolas Sarkozy, leader of the rightwing UMP, had beaten socialist Ségolène Royal to the French presidency.

From MSNBC
How Sarkozy’s ideas will play with the notoriously protest-prone population he now has to lead is an open question. Testifying to the confrontational mood he brings to the office, police contingents were reinforced today in the same outer-city ghettos that erupted with inchoate, incendiary anger in 2005, while Sarkozy was in charge of public order as the minister of interior. Large contingents of cops were also on hand in Place de la Concorde, the heart of central Paris, in case victory celebrations by the right wing degenerated into outright confrontation between Sarkozy’s supporters and those who hate and fear the man—or just want to use the occasion to raise hell.
Notice how PMSNBC slants the coverage so as to blame any violence on the right wing?

Sarko is better than Royal. Period. Just like Pres. Bush is better than Gore and Kerry. Period. Promoting a certain system of values is one thing. Deciding in advance to be unhappy with everything for the rest of your life is something else.

-the blame for any riots would belong to the MINORITY! Gotta love it. -even though the MSM won’t admit it.

What’s this with a Mediterranean Union????

That surprised me, too. Never heard that phrase before. I interpreted it as olive branch to the Muslims (N. Africans, Lebanese, etc. as citizens of former French colonies). I don't think he's talking about a formal organization like the EU. (It might also be related to Turkey's attempt to enter the EU.) I could be wrong--just my first impressions.

In memory of Rene Carmille and the Marco Polo Resistance Network, the number of people deported and murdered would have been higher. Rene Carmille thwarted much of Maurice Papon’s work. Carmille was torchered for two days before he died.

“No power in the world”, he exhorted them, “can stop you from remembering that you are the heirs of those who defended the country of France, from those who stood on the bridge of Bouvines...to those who fought at the Marne. Remember that!

“No power in the world can stop you from remembering that you are the heirs of the Cartesian thought, of the mysticism and the mathematics of Pascal, of the clarity of the writers of the 16th Century, and the perennial accomplishments of the 19th Century thinkers, all this - in France. Remember that!

“No power in the world can stop you from realizing that your institution has furnished the world with [great] thinkers...that freedom of thought has always existed...with rigor and tenacity. Remember that!

“No power in the world can stop you from knowing that the motto inscribed in gold letters on the pavilian: ‘For Country, For Knowledge, and For Glory,’ and the weighty heritage that constitutes the immense work of your ancestors, if for you a categorical imperative which must guide your path of conduct. Remember that!

“All this is written in your soul, and no one can control your soul, because your soul only belongs to God”.

- Rene Carmille

The only thing I care about france is that they have like a gazillion nuclear weapons and this huge Muslim population and they are all a bunch of cowards. I worry about France more than Iran. At least we could (theoretically) attack Iran. What do we do if France falls under the control of the towel crowd?

Royal warns..or is this a threat? "It is my responsibility today to warn people of the risk of his candidacy concerning the violence and brutality that would be unleashed in the country," she said, suggesting that unrest was especially likely in the volatile suburbs that were the site of rioting in 2005.

In my opinion it is a threat. If there are riots Sarkozy is going to have to play hardball to get them under control quickly instead of letting them go on for weeks as before. If this happens and Sarkozy can control the situation with a firm hand and steady leadership, he will go far.
