Martinez: Immigration bill could save GOP
CNN ^ | 05/21/2007

Republican National Committee Chairman Sen. Mel Martinez rejected the claim that the new immigration bill will anger conservatives and destroy the GOP's chances to win in the 2008 election. On CNN's Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer Sunday, Martinez said immigration "could be the saving of the Republican Party, frankly. And to do nothing would be the wrong thing for the American people." Martinez is optimistic that the controversial legislation will make it through Congress, and he is counting on President Bush "to get us over the finish line."

Does anyone else think that a guy named Martinez could just possibly have a conflict of interest here?

That was my first thought the minute I heard he was appointed. It seems my first instincts were correct.

God Save Our Country!

It will save the GOP from those pesky conservatives, allowing us Globalists, RINOs, and liberals to take over completely.

Bush Swallows.

The RNC and Republicans in general seem so damned and detemined to destroy themselves and hand power to the democrats, and thereby destroy the country.

Some sort of mass insanity has taken ahold of them.

People like Martinez, Bush, etc. either have no idea what people want or they are so arrogant that they don’t care.

I used to think that, but it's become so orchestrated & brazen - I'm afraid it's more sinister than that. More like a conspiracy about to come to fruition. I'm just about at the point that I think the whole bunch should be impeached. I'm talking about treason here.

The Democrats had the idea that embracing Illegals meant more votes for them, after all, they are the Party of Entitlements.

Some idiot in the GOP decided what works for the Rats should work for us..soooo, heck we'll just go after their votes as well.

It's all political posturing. And it's destroying our way of life while mocking the rule of law.

Stop the Insanity!

...mass insanity is a very good description. I am clueless what drive their thinking. How can our elected Republicans be so completely out of touch is amazing to me. Even the press does not seem to get the fact that we have huge problems with the issue.

Two things - if this amnesty travesty goes through and if we end up with a liberal as our presidential nominee - I'm out of the republican party & may they go down in flames! I've had it with these people - they deserve to lose!

This is exactly why I will never "hold my nose" and vote again! This is what we get! It's not worth it people!

It’s a shame that we had a good republican Governor who couldn’t or wouldn’t recruit better Senatorial candidates.
The republican offerings in the last two elections sucked. Mel and Catherine. Catherine Harris was okay as a rep, but didn’t have the interpersonal skills to be a Senator. Mel is like an Anti_Mr. Smith - He took the deal, vote how we want and you can stay in Washington for twenty years. Frank Capra had it right, only there’s no jimmy stewarts in the senate. And the washington press corps was defined perfectly in the movie with one exception- in real life reporters never do the right thing at the end.

Ever since Ari Fleischer left, this admin has been stone cold tone deaf. I dunno what the hell went on, but wow.

Awful communication, no possible connection to the people that supported him, and the constant ‘reaching out’ to the ravenous democrats that blatantly say they’d rather die by jihad than live under Bush.

And now this.

It could sink the Democrat majority in the House if passed. Names will be taken and seats targeted. Republican or Democrat, there are a lot of districts where angry voters will create a backlash.

Jeez....

Why do all the top GOP congressional mouthpieces sound like they want permanent minority party status. I guess they figure it’s easier to get all the benefits of office without any accountability. If the country has to go down the tubes for that to happen, so be it.

“Does anyone else think that a guy named Martinez could just possibly have a conflict of interest here?”

Yep. Is it also a coincidence that almost every pro-amnesty talking head I see on TV from some “immigrant rights” group has a Hispanic surname? Of course, I’ll be labeled a racist for stating that fact.

Just another front in the culture war in which the US is getting her ass kicked.

Maybe we’ll get lucky and the anti-gun AG Gonzalez will get the boot too. He also doesn’t exactly seem interested in prosecuting illegals.

Martinez knows the truth though he won't admit it.

Sending ALL Hispanics back to set their own country's straight is the way to fix up Latin America. We can provide them all necessary military support to undertake that task.

Martinez says this only to cover his own political ass that’s under demographic distress and not for what’s in the best interest of anything else.

If he came out in opposition to anything but full legal compliance, in his district his political career would vanish over night.
