Rohrabacher goin' off on Bush/Kennedy Amnesty Deal (Vanity)
C-Span

Posted on 05/22/2007 7:27:38 PM PDT by jamndad5

Watching Rep. Dana Rohrabacher on C-Span right now. Man, he just ripped the pro-amnesty folks a new one. Said that Americans should darn well show some righteous indignation over this immigration deal that's being cooked up. Hope it runs again this evening.

Did any of you hear Chambliss today on M. Medved’s show? He said that NOTHING goes forward UNTIL 300+ miles of the fence is built?

His comment is sort of irrelevant. As soon as this bill is signed, the illegals gain due process status, whether they apply for a Z-Visa or not. They will no longer be subject to deportation, unless they have a felony record. In fact, if a LEO encounters one, the LEO is mandated to help the illegal file the necessary paperwork toward becoming regularized.

This is NOT true. They will have legal status immediately.

Rohrbacher on CSPAN said the triggers don’t matter — they’re the lipstick on the pig. It’s up to the Director of Homeland Security to decide whether the triggers have been sufficiently achieved, which is just one of many loopholes that make the bill far worse than many people suspect. After hearing the Congressman speak tonight, it appears this bill is intentionally crafted to encourage wave after wave of illegal immigrants from all parts of the world. Apparently, the bill is written to deceive the American people, which is why Reid tried to push it through so quickly. I imagine the more Sessions, Rohrbacher and others who are on the side of decency explain the bill’s loopholes and dire implications for the middle class, the more Americans will turn their ire on our President, the bill’s authors and our Director of Homeland Security. They might even conclude they’re all traitors. I hope CSPAN will rerun Rohrbacher’s presentation. It was remarkably chilling.

I just remembered something I heard on radio very late last night. Sen. Jim Inhofe was on and said they had eliminated his English first amendment recognizing an official language that passed in the last senate bill. He wasn’t happy.

Rohrbacher is a straight shooter, and I would take his word for it in a minute. It is lipstock on the wrong end of the pig. The more I read, the worse it gets. I am appalled, for instance, that American taxpayers would have to pay for legal representation for any illegal who is rejected for, say, having committed a felony or two.

As for the waves of immigrants, Kennedy set that in motion in 1965 and has written a bill to increase the volumn of the waves. Here's what Kennedy said when pushing for the 1965 bill to be passed: "First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same…. Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset….

"Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and deprived nations of Africa and Asia….

"In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think."

I’m thinking we should get some sort of lemon law for politicians enacted.

Just might work, even if it sounds funny. I worked as a consumer advocate way back when. That law was actually workable, I got it to work for a lot of people.

Problem is, under our representive form of government theywould have to enact any law. That's why campaign finance 'reform', etc. always gets worse and worse. Mercy, every time they say 'reform' it scares me.

Just think, the 3 brothers smuggled in from Albania across Mexico that wanted to blow up Fort Dix would be home free if not for one little photo clerk. And we get to pay all legal fees for their lawyers on all z/amnesty/deportation matters.

It’ll break the judicial system.

It’s a crock. “Probationary” Z visas (the amnesty) are available IMMEDIATELY after the bill is signed. These “probationary” visas become real Z visas once the “triggers” are met. There IS NO DIFFERENCE between the real and probationary Z amnesty visas except the name. (And the triggers are a joke, congress already passed a fence bill AND, in 2004, passed the intelligence bill that included 2000 more border patrol agents EVERY YEAR until 2010. So two of the much vaunted triggers are actually in place.) Oh, and the triggers have been met once the Secretary of DHS SAYS they have been met, it’s some weasely “funded and operational” formula that means nothing. (Sorry, it’s after midnight and I’m getting sleepy!) Either Chambliss is deliberately lying or he’s too friggin dumb to have read the language. Go to Heritage Foundation’s website (heritage.org I think) and read the language — it will curl your hair. It posted a couple other places on the web too.

>>This is NOT true. They will have legal status immediately.<<

You are correct. The bill makes a specific exemption in 601(h). I must have heard that lie 50 times today "NOTHING goes forward UNTIL...." Most recently Juan Williams said it again on the O'Reilly Factor. What's worse, even though the trigger exemption is clearly in the bill, these charlatans accuse anyone who disagrees with them of not reading the bill.

I thought illegal aliens were a federal issue?

I would bet you a significant amout of cash that the legal services provision was put in the bill by a Kennedy staffer.

Did anybody see Chertoff lying and spinning on C-Span this morning? Every caller - R, D, and I - was irate and called him on this farce...except for the one self-identified "immigrant" lady from Miami.

His arrogance apparently didn't go over very well with anyone.
