The GOP has left me.
Self | Juse 1, 2007 | Natural Law

Posted on 06/01/2007 5:22:56 PM PDT by Natural Law

I am really getting sick of the "Whiny Bitch" wing of the GOP blaming its conservative base for losing control of both houses and now undermining the party further by not continuing to fund or vote for a more slow descent into socialism. This shows a complete lack of integrity on their part.

I for one refuse to vote for a Democrat, even when they call themselves a Republican, no especially when they call themselves a Republican. In fact, I would vote for a Democrat before I would a RINO because they at least have the integrity to admit to what they are. I for damned sure refuse to give them any campaign contributions when they have demonstrated that they can't manage the tax dollars they collect in the trillions.

Ronald Reagan, who began as a Democrat, once said he didn't leave the Democrat party, it left him. Me withholding my votes and financial support for the Republican Party isn't because I have changed political philosophy or party affiliation. I am withholding my votes and supports because the Republican Party has morphed into the Democrat Party.

The Whiny Bitch wing will say that there is no alternative and that not voting means that the Democrat Party (the old one that has now morphed into the Socialist Party) will prevail. The Democrat Party, or at least its principles, is prevailing anyway. One only need look at the actual status of Secure borders, immigration reform, government spending, balance of trade, energy self-sufficiency, whacko environmentalism, and voter fraud to see this.

If the GOP doesn't right itself will fade to irrelevance and will be replaced by a conservative party. When either of these two options happen I will again break out the check book and resume voting. Until then I will refrain.

They lie to us with utter contempt. Look at that phone bank thing. They fire 65 people then say it’s not because donations have dried up, but because their telephone equipment was old! Lying isn’t their second nature. It’s their first!

I bet the Constitution Party might not be so contemptuous of us.

Yep - and that’s the reason to make effective, practical arguments that appeal to a majority. Making arguments that appeal to a minority just keeps us in a minority.

"Bircheresque wing of radicals on the far far right."

Care to define who you are talking about? I really don't see conservatives as infested with David Duke types, but maybe I misunderstand who it is you're referring to.

"Extreme is something that turns most people off because it is too draconian, impractical, or advocated by what come across as assholes.

So for example, the idea to shore up the borders could probably gain a lot of public support. How you go about it might alienate people. Alienate enough people and you don’t have the mandate anymore."

-------------

Well, the amnesty bill comes off as extreme to most people and the way Bush is going about it is alienating the Republican base; therefore, Bush no longer has a "mandate." PLUS, Bush and his elitist pricks come off as assholes. Seems Bush fits the description of "extreme" to Americans who have no $$$ to gain from illegals.

It's no secret that Republicans (the historical party of the rich) have endured the conservatives simply to get elected. I'm willing to bet your definition of conservative differs from mine as well. Republicans see conservatives as right wing nut cases, while conservatives see themselves as hardworking, ethical, Americans who want to preserve a decent community for their children -- that Republican and liberal snobs are offended by this is sad.

I'm more than willing to part ways with the Republicans -- if only there were a party I could honestly identify with....

Yep, you could make that case. Bush is alienating more than just the GOP base, clearly.

Huh? How did you get David Duke out of anything I posted? Bircheresque refers to the John Birch Society. To the best of my knowledge, David Duke has never been associated with them.

I see what you are saying, but I don’t think the other posters in this thread were supporting any extreme conservative issues.

The other way to make a minority into a majority is to educate the majority on what the differences are between the parties. That is where the Reps have failed, in voice as well as action.

Right now, it will be very hard to convince the general population that “we mean it this time” no matter who is running. That is why I think you need a stronger conservative over a moderate RINO. Come out and say “the last Rep. congress violated your trust. You trusted them to do XYZ and they failed. You trusted the Pres. to protect you. He did very well in the ME, but has his blinders on here at home. I will do ABC to correct these errors of the Rep party. I have met with every single Rep candidate for Congress. We are all on the same page and I will VETO any bill that does not strictly follow these principles.”

ROFL. Let me guess - they ride pickup trucks with Confederate flags on them, looking for minorities to harm too right?

Yet another attempt to mischaracterize something I wrote. I'm sensing a pattern here. I said the Bircheresque wing, if somehow you equate that with racism I'd love to know why.

Now if it turns out that the JBS was racist as well as looney, then my apologies. I honestly didn't know there was an association with racism to be made.

How extreme is Peggy Noonan?

http://www.opinionjournal.com/columnists/pnoonan/?id=110010148

“What political conservatives and on-the-ground Republicans must understand at this point is that they are not breaking with the White House on immigration. They are not resisting, fighting and thereby setting down a historical marker—”At this point the break became final.” That’s not what’s happening. What conservatives and Republicans must recognize is that the White House has broken with them. What President Bush is doing, and has been doing for some time, is sundering a great political coalition. This is sad, and it holds implications not only for one political party but for the American future.”

Brian Lamb brought Peggy's article up this a.m.

She spoke to my long broken heart...

Peggy’s article has got to leave a mark. She’s attractive, articulate, and totally against this bill. A lot of folks will listen to her and realize she’s speaking what they couldn’t quite bring themselves to say.

I know quite well who the Birch Society is, but I wasn’t at all certain from your post that you did.

Bye, I hope you enjoy the next eight years of Hillary.

As if Rudy would be any better. Or McCain? Please.

We gave the GOP the majority. We gave them the house, the senate and the Presidency. Yes we, people like you and me. Married with children with both mom and dad working their arse's off to make ends meet. Mortgages, car payments, income taxes and FICA, insurances up the ying yang, property taxes, credit card bills, lights, gas, water, phone, internet, and cable tv...we tote the note and pay our dues.

All we really required was a little less burden...some relief if you will. We put all our cards on the table for the GOP. We believed them to be for less taxes(maybe no remarkable increase, but just try to buy some gas and a gallon of milk,) less govt intrusion in our lives (we got the "patriot act" sniffing through our bank accounts,) a smaller govt( we got yet more bureaucrats and a whole new dept called "Homeland inSecurity",) anti abortion (no significant changes there,) pro gun rights (fine, but someone please take Dick Cheney's gun away from him,) pro Constitution(there's a rumour out there regarding our constitution and our President.... I continue to hope and pray it ain't so,) pro national security (yes Mr. GOP, that means secure borders,) anti welfare state(no remarkable changes here either,) and anti gay rights (not anti gay, just keep it private without demanding special privileges thank you,) ...I could go on but you get the picture...

Think we got snookered?

Now if the GOP crafted a true conservative platform like they did in 1994, people would overwhelmingly support it.

Hi "Extremely Extreme Extremist",

I believe that is absolutely true- "Contract with America 2". Add in a firm opposition to illegal aliens and a firm backing of border enforcement, WOT, Patriotism and Sovereignty and that is a serious ticket.

And strange bedfellows to be sure, but I can't imagine the Unions are supporting this amnesty any more than we are...

Too bad we don't have a party we can trust to keep their word.

Focus also on advancing a political agenda. That’s the point of political power.

PRECISELY my point. Inasmuch as the Republicans we elect do nothing to pursue the agenda they purportedly stand for, they fail in that regard.

"I truly believe that holding our noses and pulling the lever for a RINO just because he or she is not a Democrat..."

My point is that RINO's are effectively Democrats so voting for them is effectively voting for a Democrat anyway.

"I’ve never voted for a 3rd party candidate, but 2008 might be the time.

I am proud to say that I cast my first presidential vote for John Schmitz of the American Independent Party in 1972 because Nixon had gone too far to the left. Since then I have voted a straight Republican ticket. I might return to my roots in 2008 for the same reason.
