Just announced died of leukemia:

WASHINGTON — Wyoming Sen. Craig Thomas, a three-term conservative Republican who stayed clear of the Washington limelight and political catfights, died Monday. He was 74.

The senator's family issued a statement saying he died Monday evening at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. He had been receiving chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia.

Just before the 2006 election, Thomas was hospitalized with pneumonia and had to cancel his last campaign stops. He nonetheless won with 70 percent of the vote, monitoring the election from his hospital bed.

Two days after the election, Thomas announced that he had just been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.

Gov. Dave Freudenthal, a Democrat, will appoint a successor from one of three finalists chosen by the state Republican party........"

I thought it was a misleading reply too, I have lots of friends dealing with all kinds of cancers, and they are surviving. However, I did lose a friend to Leukemia, and it was very sad.

The governor wants to be re-elected in that heavily Republican state.

God Bless Sen. Thomas

My father was diagnosed with lukemia in 1989. Four weeks, later he was gone. Some people can live with it for avery long time, some can’t.

I pay some attention to the Senate. He always struck me as a very decent man who cared about this country. His death is a loss. Prayers for his family.

>>Wyoming law requires that the Senator be replaced by the governor from a group of 3 selected by Party Committee of the Senator forced from office. The replacement will serve until the next general election (2008), a replacement will then be elected to serve the remainder of the term.<<

If the Dem governor is pro-amnesty, he may find a pro-amnesty RINO to appoint.

Sorry to hear that, but a battle with cancer is not one you’ll win.

Still too often true.

But...if you have a certain type of cancer and it's caught early enough,
you have a fighting chance.

What a weird system we have. State rules apply to federal offices, yet secession is forbidden.

Congratulations on his first day of immortality, and my condolences to the family.

He was a strong 2nd Amendment advocate - and was nothing short of magnificent in highlighting the absurdity of anti-gun legislation in the Senate.

He will be sorely missed.

The reason you didn’t hear of him is that he was a solid conservative who didn’t court the liberal media.

Wyoming law requires that the governor select a replacement from a list of 3 candidates from the party of the deceased senator. The Republicans have 3 candidates to submit. The death of Sen Thomas won't result in any change in party affiliation for his seat.
