On Hardball, today, one of the guests stated that he believed that Bush would not be invited to speak at the Republican National Convention in 2008.
Matthews simply spitted, at a loss for words.
His guest went on to say that this was not unheard of. In fact, in recent history, Lyndon Johnson was not invited to speak at the Democratic Convention in 1968. He went on to say that parties occasionally run against their own incumbant -- and the last thing they want is for him (Bush) to show up at the convention.
Especially when they are trying to distance themselves.
Is it possible that Bush, like Johnson four decades ago, might be persona non grata at the Republican National Convention?
Is that a good thing? Is it a bad thing?
Could it help the party? Or hurt it?
Sounds phony to me.
It’s neither a good, nor a bad thing. The GOP candidates need to distance themselves from Bush. The point is, they need to distance themselves from his immigration policy, not from his WoT policies.
“one of the guests”
Does this person have a name?
It’s plausible that it could happen, but there’s no way such a decision has already been made.
This just sounds like some very premature speculation.
Bullcrap. Besides, these decisions would not be made til very close to the convention time. Chris’ guest is talking out his ass, just like the host himself.
It's mere speculation. But interesting.
I am so pissed over immigration that I almost want this to be true.
I do not waver in my support of the President because the WOT is far too important to our future survival. I really think he needs a wakeup call over this shamnesty and this would do it.
If he stops right now kicking his own base in the teeth and hurling gross insults at them, and they torpedo the illegal amnesty idea right now, and start building the 800-mile fence they are obligated by last year’s legislation to build, then he could be a featured person.
Otherwise, I think he’ll be recognized at 1:00 p.m. on the first day of the convention, and then quickly escorted from the building.
Tancredo said he would not use Bush for anything if he were elected, as Tancredo was told by Rove to never darken the doorway of the white house.
It could only help but I doubt they have the stones. Plus the party bosses are all Rockefeller Republicans like Bush.
means nothing.
This is a horrible thing. Any party that abandons a sitting President like this is up a creek without a paddle.
How successfull was this tactic for the Democrats in 1968 ? uhhh.
Even though I do not support or like everything the President has done. He doesnt deserve to be tossed overboard. Lyndon Johnson for all of his faults didnt deserve to have his own party spit on him. A President should at the very least be respected for holding such a high office and service to his country.
come on
If this is done I will not vote for any Republican until hell freezes over.
Tancredo said this last night at the debates.
I think Chris’s guest was having a wet dream
I heard a rumor that Spit Matthews and Joe Scarborough are both morons!
I don’t think Bush brings much to the convention. His 29% approval rating does not bode well. He has no coattails for anyone to latch onto.
It would be a slap, if he is not invited, but he has done some slapping of his own with his recent criticism of the anti-illegals advocates.
