Lieberman favors military strike on Iran

Sen. Joseph Lieberman (news, bio, voting record) said Sunday the United States should consider a military strike against Iran because of Tehran's involvement in Iraq.
"I think we've got to be prepared to take aggressive military action against the Iranians to stop them from killing Americans in Iraq," Lieberman said. "And to me, that would include a strike over the border into Iran, where we have good evidence that they have a base at which they are training these people coming back into Iraq to kill our soldiers."
The U.S. accuses Iran of fostering terrorism and Tehran's nuclear ambitions have brought about international reproach.
Lieberman, the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000 who now represents Connecticut as an independent, spoke of Iranians' role in the continued violence in Iraq.
"By some estimates, they have killed as many as 200 American soldiers," he said. "Well, we can tell them we want them to stop that. But if there's any hope of the Iranians living according to the international rule of law and stopping, for instance, their nuclear weapons development, we can't just talk to them.
"If they don't play by the rules, we've got to use our force, and to me, that would include taking military action to stop them from doing what they're doing."
Lieberman said much of the action could probably be done by air, although he would leave the strategy to the generals in charge

As a result, Joe has become an honest man, again. He is saying what he knows and thinks, and he's a fairly bright guy. That does not salvage his reputation, in my mind, for his lies to protect Bill Clinton, and his lies to fit in with Al Gore. But it does guarantee that he will be worth listening to, for the balance of his Senatorial career.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Iran has sent videos of the camp directly to the CIA just to taunt them. “Unmarked” but no doubt where it’s from.
If some of the “republican” senators like Collins and others had the convictions of Joe Lieberman the country might have a chance.
Susan (Collins) is no Joe (Lieberman), but Collins supported Lieberman in his Senate re-election bid last November, and Lieberman has made in clear he is going to support Susan Collins when her term representing Maine in the U.S. Senate is up for re-election in 2008.
Bush won’t do this becasue he is too busy trying to F*** legal Americans with his Amnesty bill for otherworlders.
Lieberman may be a lib on domestic issues, but on defense, he is almost always on target.
his statement also shows some real courage.
You’ll see lots of pro Lieberman posts today and we may agree with him on this point. Just remember that he is far left on most other issues and was one of the chief conspirators in the attempt at discounting military votes and the attempted theft of the 2000 election.

That’s exactly why I would like to see Lieberman in a position only focused on Foreign Policy, speak the State or Defense Department. He is indeed horrible regarding domestic issues, but his views on Defense and Foreign policy are top-notch.
May I add to this. Lieberman is the last voice of common sense left in the Democratic and Republican party, including the President.

Sorry, but after I watched him whining “We just want to count all the votes” while attempting to throw out military ballots, I will never trust him again. He was involved in trying to steal a U.S. Presidential election, and to me that is unforgivable.
He, and every congressman and woman, know the U.S. is under attack from terrorists, but staying in power is more important than national security. Leiberman does the right thing in security matters, but as far as I am concerned he is no better than a third world dictator when he tried to overthrow our election process.
Leiberman's stance was 100% in step with the liberal left on all the other issues but the War on Terror. No different, and maybe even better then Hillaryious Clinton's record (in the liberal's eyes). But the liberals called for Leiberman's head. They spent millions to defeat him. Then they send money to Hillaryious and they didn't go after her like they did Ol' Joe.
That is not respectable, by any means.

No, it didn't. It's pretty common knowledge. And even if it hadn't been reported in the media, the Iranians must assume we know where all their facilities are because of our satellite capabilities. You can't hide training camps anymore.
Then why on earth is he still caucusing with the democrats?

Actually, I heard Byron Dorgin on the Dennis Miller Show the other day, and I have to say that I was amazed at his lucidity when discussing the amnesty bill.
Well, I was pleasantly surprised.
Maybe he has Bush Derangement Syndrome regarding other issues of policy, but the guy was saying everything that I wanted to hear,...and hear out of a Republican, to boot.
There is nothing the left, or especially the far left, are offering America of substance. Joe’s attitude is more in line with his heritage, Israel. He is still very left in his mindset and what troubles me is that he is not willing to caucus with the Republicans to swing the Senate. Taking on the border training an supplying camps in Iran would sure be interesting. But the war on terror is really being fought in the Senate and the MSM. A huge gain would be if the chairpersons were switch from the Democrats to the Republicans and might stop the constant BS that the Democrats are pitched our way. This constant barrage has demoralized the Republicans and their clear thinking. This loss of control of the Senate I believe has affected the President and our Government is at a total stall and is very confused. Apparently that is becoming the concept of most Americans. Unfortunate.
