The FReeper Canteen Crew sadly announces the passing of Mr. Tonkin. (68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub).
If you would like to leave a message for his family, please direct them to amom.
Also, we ask that you send prayers to amom, his son Matthew, family, and friends.
We love you, Mr. Tonkin. Say 'hello' to Texas Cowboy for all of us.
You're missed and will never be forgotten.
We hope to make this an online memorial book for his family.
Details will be provided later regarding funeral services.
There is so much about Brian’s life to celebrate. But it’s going to take me a little while before I’m ready to do that. Sorry to be so selfish, but right now I need to try to nurse this giant hole that just opened up in my heart.

I am so sorry. My prayers have been with him and his family throughout this ordeal.
I pray that the God of all comfort will make His presence very real to you today and in the weeks to come. Tonkin Gulf was a hero.
How can anyone forget his virulent frustration with Kerry? his posts took up 20 or more screens in every thread!
He will be missed. I know he tried to fight the good fight.

Wow, a huge loss to the Free Republic and military veteran community. As a (soon to be retired) veteran he was one of my favorite posters and an inspiration. God speed Tonkin, and may God bless and care for your family until you are reunited.

This saddens me beyond words. He was one of the first people I “met” in the Canteen.
He didn’t have to...but he answered the call to duty again after 9/11.
He used to FReepmail me his evaluations as he advanced through the ranks gaining more certifications on his boat and container inspection duties...he was very proud of what he was doing and accomplishing...you couldn’t help but be proud for him.
Most of all Tonk, than you for wearing the uniform of this country when you did...it’s what has allowed me to wear it now...you showed me what right looks like.
