Duncan Hunter on CNN(transcript
CNN ^ | June 17, 2007

Posted on 06/18/2007 8:30:49 AM PDT by rob21

BLITZER: The contest for the Republican presidential nomination is clearly far from over as GOP voters continue to look for alternatives. One of those hoping to break out of the pack is joining us today from San Diego. Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter of California is the ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, a former chairman of that panel. He wants to be president of the United States.

Thanks very much for coming in, Congressman.

HUNTER: Good to be with you, Wolf. Happy Father's Day.

BLITZER: Thank you. Happy Father's Day to you, as well. We'll talk about your son a little bit later. He's serving right now in Afghanistan.

But let's talk about immigration reform first. And I'm going to play a clip for you from what the president said this week. He'd desperately trying to get this legislation through the Senate, so then it will come to your chamber, the House of Representatives.

And he offered this idea. Listen to what the president said.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

BUSH: I support an amendment that will provide $4.4 million in immediate, additional funding for securing our borders and enforcing our laws at the work site. The funding will come from the fines and penalties that we collect from those who have come to our country illegally.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BLITZER: All right. What do you think about that idea. That $4.4 billion is a lot of money to beef up the border between the U.S. and Mexico, something you desperately want.

HUNTER: Well, you know, Wolf, I think it's terrible. I like the president. But I think it's a terrible trade for the president of the United States or the Senate, which really has this amendment, to trade border security for amnesty.

Hunter is my first choice. He is the gold standard, by which I compare the other candidates.

I like Thompson, because he’s almost as good as Hunter. I like some of the others, because they occasionally sound almost like Hunter.

We are going to be electing a war-time president. We will be better served if we elect a warrior to that office. We have some good men running, several of whom would make good presidents, but for a war-president Hunter is the best of the batch.

Why do some people keep trying to say Fred Thompson is the conservatives choice. That’s baloney. He got a “C” grade on immigration. They like to scare you into thinking your personal favorite just can’t win.

I’m getting to old for these scare tactics. I like Duncan and Tancredo. One for President and one in charge of DHS. Maybe then I wouldn’t feel I have to keep C-Span on all day to see what the hell COngress is doing to us.

>”You’re going to have to, in some way, work out a deal where they can have some apsiration of citizenship,” Fred Thompson, 2006<

>>I can’t see Duncan Hunter making that statement. The difference is, Thompson sounds just like Bush.<<

Duncan Hunter, again, did us proud yesterday! He has any subject well in hand, and deals with it in a matter of fact and Presidential manner.

With Duncan Hunter, there is no can’t.

I appreciate that but if they are elected maybe we won’t need one. We will know it’s all in good hands and won’t need somebody’s “Snow” job on what they are doing. Now, for the head of education - I’ll take that job. I would like to have a word in on what’s being taught in our schools. I want somebody to work with a goal of making our schools a place we will want to send our kids to for an education (instead of homeschooling them or deprogramming them at night).

Fred’s recent speech to the Lincoln Club in Orange County, CA is on you tube.

Here is a link to part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhJ5dy_MTxY&mode=related&search=

Part 1 was mostly jokes and Hollywood talk (warning - he thinks Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is great). In part 2 he has some interesting things to say (watch the video for exact quotes but these are pretty close - I was trying to write fast)

On Globalization - “Globalization? We’re not afraid of it. It’s a good thing for America.”

On NAFTA- He loves it; wants more of it.

Immigration - He focused on border security and terrorist threats, then said the 12 million illegals here are not as much a concern as the next 12 and the next 12 and so on. He said once border security is addressed, “people of good will” can sit down and work out the rest of it together. Yikes.

Also said our current demographics/birth rate is not enough to support the pension plans and pay the bills. Interpret that as you will in light of the above view on immigration.

I haven’t watched part 3 and 4 yet. He came across as likeable enough (who isn’t compared to Hillary), but his intentions are not those of which I share for the future of this country.

Duncan tells it like it is. That’s admirable. I think the immigration issue is #1 in this election.

That’s EXACTLY what they’re doing, trading border security for amnesty. No WONDER the public doesn’t believe their silly bill. Where’s the fence? Where’s any kind of border security?

Ask Michael Chertoff.

Mr. Chertoff is charged with securing the border. And the one thing he's not doing -- he's appearing on lots of talk shows. He is not securing the border.

Michael Chertoff is doing his propaganda runs, but I don’t think most Americans believe him.

I even think Chertoff has dual citizenship. His mother was part of the Mossad team that ran Operation Magic Carpet.

That would make Chertoff an Israeli citizen.

"I don’t think Hunter would vote to OK allowing American firms to fire American employees to replace them with foreign workers."

Congress doesn't have a damned thing to say about it. It's called 'corporate America doing some idiotic dance for Wall St.........called "outsourcing" '. Millions are losing jobs to foreign workers; they just aren't necessarily here. It's stupid and pathetic.

Wow. It really is terrifying that so many conservatives are willing to hail Fred Thompson as our conservative savior and the next Reagan. He’s moderate at best, and he clearly doesn’t have a conservative world view.

Duncan Hunter, on the other hand, is a real conservative, he says what he believes, and most importantly HIS PAST RECORD DOES NOT CONTRADICT HIS CURRENT POSITIONS! Fred is acting like a good conservative just like he acts on TV, but his record contradicts almost everything that he claims to believe in.
