Lone Star- Ron Paul
The American Conservative ^ | June 18, 2007 | Michael Brendan Dougherty

Posted on 06/24/2007 7:47:36 AM PDT by joeu

Paul’s doggedness in advancing the causes of individual responsibility and limited government could intimidate almost anyone who clings to the label “conservative” or “libertarian.” Perhaps that is why he avoids those abused designations and calls himself a “constitutionalist.” His philosophy is simple: “no government intervention, not in personal life, not in economic life, not in affairs of other nations.”

It makes you wonder when George Noory appears to be endorsing Ron Paul.

i can’t stand george noory. he’s such a nut. unfortunately my insomnia gets the best of me most nights and i end up listening to his crazy ideas about 9/11 and stupid stuff. he’s ruined that show. you get the feeling he believes every loony idea that comes down the pike, without an intellectual input at all.

His cheerful consistency doesn’t end there. Paul not only votes against nearly all government spending, he has refused to be the beneficiary of it as well. As a physician specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, he has delivered over 4,000 babies. He accepted no money from Medicare or Medicaid, often working for free for needy patients. With his support, his five children finished school without subsidized federal student loans. He has refused a congressional pension.

Walks the walk along with talking the talk.

If that is the case then he is most certainly not a constitutionalist. The constitution never has forbade government intervention in any of those things. I do believe the government should be reigned in and its interventions limited but what he suggests while it may seem appealing is just not the reality that has existed since the founding of this country. I would rather he advocate very specific roll backs in government largess rather than going off the deep end with a generalist philosophy that makes assumptions that are not and have never been true.

Admirable. But he still has some loony ideas.

His philosophy is simple: “no government intervention, not in personal life, not in economic life, not in affairs of other nations.”

Refreshing. That used to be the standard of conservatism. These days we have 'conservatives' advocating massive domestic policy spending, passing more legislation for what we as adults can ingest, and interfering in other nations that don't represent a threat to our borders.

I'm not totally sure I know what I think about him, yet. I definitely think his view on "just turning around and going home" from the middle east is too simplistic. It might "raise our standing in the world" as he says, but the barbaric islamonazi's would hardly see it that way.
He doesn't seem to be what I would call "presidential material", either. I think he does better at the local level at this point. I've heard his present constituents love him. I might like to see how he'd do as a governor first.

And Paul has been in public office for many years...and is still not exactly fabulously wealthy.

I'm one and I don't. I sincerely hope he's defeated in the primary next year, or has the guts to not run for re-election while seeking the Presidency.

The Ron Paul folks are drinking the KoolAid as instructed and fiddling up a storm while Rome burns. Supporting any candidate who cannot beat the Democrat ( most likely Hillary or Obama) is just supporting the Dem. RP is a waste of time, energy, and money. The RP supporters have been programed to say that the other candidates are as bad or worse socialists as Hillary. Ya Da Ya Da... Bottom line is - support RP and elect a Dem. If they don’t mind Hillary or Obama they should put bumper stickers for Hillary or Obama on their cars. Because that is what they are doing. Oh by the way -for the RP folks who will attack my statements by claiming that I have never read the Constitution, I have.
