What a shame. Military service has been a very important way for races to mix and know each other. It has also been an important road to advancement. i guess there are those who want neither.

Nice vanity.

Many on the right now called bigots and racists by our own party, have seen the hand writing on the proverbial wall for years.

So-called leaders like Jackson and Sharpton along with the New Black Panthers and other race baiting groups of hatred have caused American Black citizens more harm than good.

Al and Jessie depend on hatred to fuel their coffers. Thanks for your service.

Just the lowly opinion of a red state wannabe.

Bless you and indeed, Thank You for your service to your country. You do this country proud, and don’t ever forget it. The people of your community who blast you for taking your own life where you want it to go, is to me, the saddest of conditions that black communities find themselves in. Black people have every bit as much chance to be proud Americans, with character, honor, and integrity, just as you have. It is incredibly sad to me, that they choose victim-hood instead. Wasted potential is more destructive to human life than poverty, and is usually the biggest part of it.

Your country and your parents are proud of what you have, and will continue to become. Character is not based on color!

You can add ALL Democrats to that list of people who strive to keep victimhood alive! I pray that at some point, all people will see that.

Americans are all one color - and that’s red, white, and blue.

Trueblackman, thank you for your intelligent responses and even more, for the heat you have taken over the years in trying to improve the outlook and morals of your race. I have seen you many times on conservative TV and wish and hope that all of the “heat” you have taken over the years will pay off in the long run to make life, and the chance to get ahead, better for many who may take your comments to heart.

Once again, Thanks!

If military service is indeed a scarlet letter in the Black Community then I wear mine proudly because I am more than just someone’s victim in life.

Thanks for your service TBM.

In the Marine Corps the scarlet stripe is in remembrance
of the blood shed by the NCOs, nothing but pride associated
with it. Marine blood is not black or white, and we are no one’s “victim”.

God bless.

Tet.

One of the many reasons I do as well.
Heritage, self-empowerment, education...

The dignity to look people in the eye, regardless of their relative status.

If I had been warned about the chow, I might have had a second thought. Maybe I’ll build up an immunity before I hit 20 years...

In Viet Nam my fellow soldiers, who happened to be black, repeatedly said the Army was the only place they ever felt they got a fair shake.

I serve with many black men. I have gone to sea with many black men. I have counted on and depended on these sailors. They haven't let me down. These guys are closer to me than the folks I grew up with. It didn’t take long for me (a white man) to look past color. We aren’t black, white, rich, poor, etc. We are Aviation Ordnacemen and at the end of the day we all wear red shirts. That’s all that matters.
