More women feeling skeptical about Clinton's authenticity - though they wish they weren't
The Dallas Morning News ^ | July 8, 2007 | Melinda Henneberger

The most appealing thing about Hillary Rodham Clinton has always been her enemies, who often seem not in their right mind, screaming that she is a murderer and calling her names like "Her Thighness." They make you want to like her.

Yet in interviews across the country with women of all ages, races, income brackets and points of view, one of the rare patches of common ground was skepticism about the first female presidential contender with a serious shot at the White House. Over 18 months, I traveled to 20 states listening to women speak at length about what they care about and what drives them crazy as they look toward the presidential election in '08. I ought to like her, many of the strongest Democrats among them said. But on no other matter did left, right and center converge as on the view best summed up as "Anybody but Hillary' – to the point that I began to dread the mention of her name, because it meant we would probably not get around to talking about anything else that day.

All of which runs contrary to the accepted narrative of this election cycle, which is that it is women who are leading the charge for Mrs. Clinton's candidacy. Polling, which at this point still mainly measures name ID, certainly shows a far more mixed picture for Mrs. Clinton where female voters are concerned; 51 percent of those who participated in a recent Washington Post-ABC News survey said they support her for the Democratic nomination.

I think the main reason is, she reminds every woman of her mother-in-law*, and every man of his ex-wife.

DING, DING, WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find it sad that someone would vote for someone because they are a woman, or black, or white, etc. etc. Maybe there should be a test before allowed to vote, like there is to become a citizen.

"For the record, I heard very few complaints about Mrs. Clinton's decision to stay in her marriage. To the extent that her husband is a factor, he seems to be an asset; many women, centrists in particular, said they wished they could vote for him a third time."

It's not always true that women can spot phonies. They'd vote for Bill a third time, according to the above article. As much as I may dislike Hillary, Bill is the bigger phony.

A: Because women are much better at spotting phonies and disengenuous people than men are.

In general terms, this is true only if it is another woman under scrutiny. If it is a man, they're as gullible as can be.

Each sex generally understands certain ground rules about themselves and can easily spot pretenders or sense when something is wrong with one of their gender. Authentic wisdom, OTOH, isn't generally present in either sex.

Hillary has more testosterone running through her veins than Edwards.

If you believe that the world needs less testosterone and more estrogen (you can make the logical argument), he's your candidate.

The first tip off was her change of name...again. She’s back to Hillary Clinton. Now that she’s dropped the Rodham, the Feminists aren’t happy.

Sure there are women who would celebrate her presidency. They’re mostly from on of the Republics...the People’s Republic of Santa Monica, CA, the People’s Republic of San Francisco, the People’s Republic of Mass., PR of VT......

The Dallas Morning News left out the crossword and the cryptograms today. That’s the only reason to get this paper.

She’s neither ugly nor fat. She could stand to lose about 30 pounds and she’s a better than average looking woman in her late fifties.

It’s the inside that’s ugly (I don’t know about fat)

You have to admit it’d be pretty ironic if the thing that cost her the White House was that factor she has long derided as an example of sexist thought....

Feminine Intuition

The fact that Hillary looks down her nose at most other women is what will do her in.

Who could ever forget her golden quote:"I suppose I could have stayed home, baked cookies and had teas, but what I decided to do was to fulfill my profession."

That was my observation too. Bill's phoniness was too obvious but the women swooned. I think the women who might oppose Hilary will do so because they realize that Hilary's level of "success" has been reached entirely because of her husband's success and not by her own. By her own devices, Hilary has accomplished nothing.

Bill's Attorney General job begat Hilary's law office job. Bill's Governorship begat Hilary's law partnership. Bill's presidency begat Hilary's senate seat - in the only state where she could possibly win - a state where she had never lived.

She is a female Bill without the political skills, without the people skills and without a resume of her own. If she should win the nomination and lose the election, I would bet that she would quickly resign her senate seat and shrink away, with Bill, to Hollywood.

I know I’ll never forget THAT quote, nor the cold, icy way she stared at the crowd the night of Clinton’s first election. It was as if she had just been elected QUEEN, and the American people were her lowly minions.

Excellent, excellent analysis. I couldn't agree more.

"She is a female Bill without the political skills, without the people skills and without a resume of her own."

Bullseye! : )

...I am going to say most women can’t spot a phony on sight, because so many well, fall for them, or certainly buy their crap.

While it's obvious that a lot of women will fall for a man's line, I really think that most women learned back in junior high school how to tell when a fellow female is being phony. As for the Oprah comments, I don't see her as a phony, I just see her as being incredibly lucky in spite of being fairly stupid. She's genuine, but genuinely screwed up, and a lot of women (thank goodness, not the majority) can identify with her for that.

A Rat Zombie here in PA. already told me he will vote for the Beast so Bill will be back in the White House. “Like the good old days” was his quote. *Sigh* Where to begin?

It is a terrible generalization, but I think WOMEN are SUPER CRITICAL of OTHER WOMEN, especially when it comes to a woman who is somehow moving up the ladder and heading for top leadership role. I have seen the most critical scrutiny assigned women by other women.

Men might be hesitant to say things about Hitlery out of fear of political correctness, but believe me, I think the ranks of anti-Hillary WOMEN in this country are going to dramatically increase. If there is a good, decent GOP candidate, whom women take a liking to and respect for, I think they will defect en mass from Hitlery.
