Dad beats, shoots and paralyzes Teen daughters lover

BENTONVILLE -- The father of a 17-year-old girl found his daughter's boyfriend hiding inside her bedroom closet Tuesday, beat him bloody with a pool stick, then left the room to fetch a gun. The daughter and boyfriend blocked the door with a dresser, so the father shot through the closed door, hitting the boyfriend in the back and paralyzing him, police said.

George David Reed, 48, posted a $150,000 bond and was freed from jail Wednesday afternoon as Michael Austin Guzman, 19, underwent surgery to treat a bullet lodged in his spinal cord.

Three of Guzman's vertebrae are fractured and doctors don't expect him to regain feeling or mobility below his waist, according to a probable cause affidavit released Wednesday after Reed's bond hearing. He was still in surgery Wednesday evening in Joplin's Freeman Health System, according to an intensive care nurse.

Benton County Circuit Judge Xollie Duncan set the bond Wednesday based on a request from Chief Deputy Prosecutor Shane Wilkinson. Reed was arrested on suspicion of a felony terroristic act, the most serious type of felony aside from capital murder, punishable by up to life in prison. He was also arrested on a charge of felony first-degree battery.

Defense attorney W.H. Taylor, who spent the morning consulting with his client at the jail, did not object to the bond. Reed is to be arraigned Sept. 10 before Circuit Judge David Clinger.

Taylor said that Reed has three children and lives with his wife, Sharon, at 13569 Vaughn Road near Highfill. Reed has been in Northwest Arkansas since 1962, owns a farm and rental properties, and has operated a moving and storage business since 1983.

You forgot to add that the suspected rapist is Hispanic, likely an illegal.

A bedroom is not a structure, the building (house) is the structure a bedroom is a part of the structure. From http://www.legal-explanations.com/definitions/structure.htm A structure is defined as the physical development made in a land with a purpose to provide accommodation . For a construction or development to be a structure it must have an enclosure and a roof with provisions for entering within it. A structure is the first stage of construction of any building.

From http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/structure anything built on land from a shed to a highrise.

Read my previous reply to E. Pluribus Unum somewhere upthread. It’s a cut n’ paste of the pertinent Arkansas statute. In short, the use of the word “terroristic” is a bit of state-specific legalese and predates the WOT by decades.

If I interpreted your post correctly, what made the act 'terroristic' was the fact that he shot through the door. In other words--even though he couldn't aim at a person, he knew there were people there that he might hit.

Looks like they all eat well in Arkansas...

Looks like Gov. Huckabee a few years back (before his great
weight-loss) with some blonde hair-dye.

Whether or not his daughter chose to have intercourse with an intruder on his property, the individual in question is still an intruder on his property.

Not if the daughter invited him inside (the house). This guy is a major league asshole and will hopefully get what he deserves.

for the record, I'm the father of three grown girls. I've thrown some boys out, never needed a stick to do it and never would even think about getting one of the guns.

How many freepers ever diddled their girl while the old-folks were asleep? My hand is raised.

There’s a little thing called “trajectories”. It explains how a bullet can pass through two people or through a door, a dresser and then enter a human being.

Yes, I believe that is essentially what the statute says. Other states use different language, such as "aggravated reckless endangerment" or the like.

At the site of the original report is a forum for this article. It’s full of the same kind of disgusting posts as we see on this thread-chest thumpers crowing how they’d do the same thing to anyone who touched their daughter, laughing at the victim’s likely impotence, etc etc ad nauseum ad infinitum-BUT there is a post from a person claiming to be a nurse. S/he states that the boy is feeling “tingling” in his feet. If this is true-IF s/he is telling the truth about the boy’s sensation-then his spine is not completely severed , and with intensive PT he may be able to walk with leg braces and crutches, only needing a wheelchair when he’s exhausted. Let us hope this person isn’t just blowing smoke.

Um, a bedroom has an enclosure, a roof and a provision for entering it. It meets that definition of structure. But that's beside the point because that's not the definition of structure. See Merriam Webster for the definition. That particular internet site isn't authoritative at all.

But granting you that for purposes of discussion, even it if is "part of a structure", isn't firing into the bedroom firing into a structure (that the bedroom is part of)? The law doesn't say you have to be outside the structure when firing.

...and the whole "structure, not structure" argument is really beside the point now. It bears only on whether the "terroristic act" charge will stay as-is or be changed to attempted murder.

From what I've seen so far and from reading Arkansas law, it's pretty cut-and-dried that this guy had no right to use deadly force.

This place is full of a much higher percentage of kooks since the “purge”, but there’s still some decent folks around.

Unfortunately, threads like this bring out the “compensators” and nutjob hilljacks.

This wasn’t justice. The punishment should fit the crime, and even though paralysing the boy was not the intended punishment, shooting at him was too severe for the ‘crime’.

One person commented the “father clearly LOST his head”
That would make him innocent by reason of temporary insanity......Works for me.

Another said I should read the Story.. I certainly read it then I interpreted it...

Why would I believe or accept at face value the words coming from the MSM?..

They are proven congenital, degenerate liars.

You believe them. I know better.

Next:

Can one of you explain just how it is appropriate for some low life punk to engage in sexual relations with a mans minor daughter let alone under the Fathers roof.

Explain that to this ignorant hick…..

How the young punks actions were right and proper...
How the punk shameful conduct was not the cause of all that came after.

Come on explain it and again, please. Just how it is a good thing?

You say the age of consent is 16?

Oh , I see only the age of consent for sexual relations...

Not the legal responsibility for the consequences and results of such sexual conduct..

That is the Fathers the Parents Legal and Financial Responsibility.

However you have stripped the parents of any rights or powers to act to defend their daughter and their interests in her long term welfare.

Pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV (a Death Sentence) , Failure to complete ones education and the consequence of a lifetime on welfare or living in poverty.

For you Liberals these are minor annoyances… As you live in economic splendor provided by average working people and you enjoy the misery and suffering of others. The stress and misery caused provides just one more excuse to enter into familial relations and work you evil ways to turn children against their families and parents.

The age of consent is 16 you say..

Is that so Public School Teachers can have sex with their fellow teacher’s students perhaps? The teachers from one place passing off the most vulnerable.. from one to another based upon districts or maybe even schools so everything is nice and “Legal”?

Or Members of the Legislature? Perhaps with a lot of ready cash in the freezer?.

I see now...once again any children, diseases, mental problems, academic problems the minor daughter incurs would be the responsibility of the PUNK right?

The State?

NO they would be the Fathers Problem..and the young girls.

YOU ARE LIBERALS if you support that...

Don’t throw some Muslim Honor Crap at me.

The Father was not even accused of attacking his daughter he was defending her from a sexual predator...

Something the Legislature of his State Failed to do when they changed the Age of Consent for Sexual Relations from the Age of Legal Responsibility.

Clearly articulate why I should care what happens to some young low life who is having sex with a man’s minor daughter in her bedroom in the Father’s House.

Like I said before… Great Shot Dad...

W

Hurting the adult boyfriend with the gun was not intentional. The boyfriend deserved to get beat-up. Any normal dad would have done the same, considering the boyfriend was warned not to come around by himself. I saw some comments else where about this topic...What if the dad would have shot the boyfriend coming in the window at night as an intruder...his aim may have been better and the boyfriend could have been killed in the night. Also, someone stated that..."Do you want your tax dollars paying for this dad to go to prison, when he does not have any priors?" By the way new reports on the boyfriend say that he feels tingling in his legs and feet.

He said a friend called that morning to say Guzman's car was parked down the road.

He told Dad and then sat back and watched the fire works.
