O'Reilly jumps the shark
The O'Reilly Factor ^ | 8-2-2007 | DesScorp

Posted on 08/02/2007 9:23:04 PM PDT by DesScorp

On tonight's O'Reilly Factor, Bill used the Souther Poverty Law Center as an authority on "hate groups". This is the same organization run by notorious race hustler Morris Dees, a man local Montgomery Alabama area black residents accuse of being a con man that takes their money, yet does little (including hiring black attorneys for the SPLC). There are several references online to Dees con-artistry. Everyone from National Review to The Nation has called Dees out, yet O'Reilly has given him credibility. The SPLC has tarred a large number of groups with the "hate" label that are nothing of the kind, including the United Daughters of the Confederacy (which does heinous things like place flowers at confederate graves).

Discover The Networks has an excellent summary of Dees and the SPLC, with great quotes that reach across the ideological spectrum. Even the uber-left leaning The Nation magazine has a wicked writeup called The Church of Morris Dees.

Congratulations, Bill...you've now officially jumped the shark.

I propose a moratorium on the phrase “Jump the Shark.”

I thought Bill O’Reilly jumped the shark a long time ago - when he had that sex scandal that was immediately hushed up.

The phrase “Jump the Shark” is a reference to the televisions show “Happy Days”. It refers to an event in a television show (or by analogy any other long-running cultural product, or series of cultural products) which epitomizes its decline (usually into absurdity) and presages its demise.

In the episode in question The Fonz jumped over a shark on water skis.

It's a reference to "Happy Days' going into the absurd by having Fonzie do a water ski jump over a shark. Anything else that has gone off the deep end can be said to have "jumped the shark". See also: www.jumptheshark.com

Maybe after Bill has jumped the shark, the ultimate predator can turn around and eat him.

Uhh . . . The Fonz was on the skis. The shark was just doing its thing . . . swimming around . . . it got in the way so The Fonz jumped it (with his water skis on). That segment was marked as the beginning point of the Happy Days decline in quality productions.

Morris Dees is the ACLU’s lapdog, in the Nethercutt lawsuit, the San Diego ACLU (of Soledad Cross removal infamy) was co counsel on the lawsuit.

He handles cases even the Aclu doesn’t want to officially sully themselves with taking.

Dees is every bit the race pimp that Sharpton or Jackson is, Bill really has hopped the shark.

I remember when, a few years ago, Dees and his crew labeled the owner of a local conservative mom and pop radio station as an anti-semite. The guy happened to be Jewish. Dees is nothing more than a world class race baiting scam artist.

Bill O’Reilly is the evolution of Joe Pyne and Morton Downey, Jr. I think O’Reilly is a bigger know-it-all and less civil than either of those two. But this time he operates in, is less cultured and more uncivil, although the culture doesn’t see itself that way, because the adherents of political correctness feel themselves more self-actualized than the unscrubbed masses that preceded them. O’Reilly and the MSM gods may think him somehow superior to the rantings, ravings, debasements, and egomania of Pyne and Downey, but O’Reilly rules and reigns over the same gutter of television that they ruled and reigned over, and just like them always seeking to elevate and promote himself by browbeating and debasing personalities more than offering insight into issues.

I sent Fox News this...

You have a serious case of dishonesty and hypocrisy from one of your team.

On Tuesday night, Bill O’Reilly, who has been waging a one man war against the dishonesty of the left wing media, did exactly what he has been accusing the rest of the media of doing, he distorted and fabricated in order to carry out a smear.

In accusing FreeRepublic.com of being a “hate site” he illustrated his point with three quotes which he claimed on air that HE personally had found on FreeRepublic.com.

NONE of the quotes actually existed!

The first quote – “Homosexuals are dogs”, as he claimed it to be, turned out to actually be “Homosexuals are the modern day dogs in the manger”.

This was a comment about the homosexual lobby and referred to “dog in the manger” – a term derived from Aesop’s Fables for someone who is nuisance for no good reason. Clearly, Mr O’Reilly’s education is not up to the standards of Free Republic’s posters.

O’Reilly edited this quote to completely change it’s context and then presented it as hate speech.

The second quote - “”Hillary Clinton should be assassinated.” “A stray bullet should kill her” was also inaccurate and out of context.

The actual posting he referenced was a poor piece of satire painting a scenario where many disasters were happening simultaneously including hillary clinton being accidently shot.

Poor taste possibly; but the poster was merely painting a bizarre scenario in the same vein as the recent Hollywood film depicting Bush’s assassination.

The word “assassination” was NEVER used in the posting, nor the phrase “A stray bullet SHOULD kill her” – once again, O’Reilly is distorting the truth to make a point that isn’t true.

The third quote – “I hate Blacks” just flat out doesn’t exist!

It’s a total fabrication, or should I just call it what it is – A LIE. O’Reilly’s producer could not provide a link to such a comment.

The only instance of the phrase to be found anywhere on the forum was in the body of a news ARTICLE that was posted to be commented upon, it was NOT a comment from a Freeper.

FreeRepublic.com has a proud track record of unmasking lies and distortion; it was Freepers that exposed Dan Rather’s “fake but accurate” forgeries that ultimately led to his disgrace and downfall. Mr O’Reilly is setting himself on course for a similar unmasking if he relies on such shoddy work.

Mr O’Reilly owes FreeRepublic.com an ON AIR apology. NONE of his quotes were accurate, and none of the items he misquoted, when taken in context and read accurately, were hate speech.

In fact he gave a classic demonstration of precisely that which he has been crusading against.

He should be ashamed of himself.

What’s wrong with your commas and periods? There should be a single space after the commas and a double space after the periods?

How did Dodd speak the truth?

I do believe that O’Reilly is trying to stir things up about this thing called freedom in the Internet. There is a undercurrent of hatred about the electronic age from the use of cell phones to telephones with caller I.D. I suspect much of it comes from the Baby Boom Generation who would love it if things went back to the analog age with Jimmy Hendricks records and rotary telephones. O’Reilly is playing to a segment of Americans who hate the idea that people text message and can vote in an American Idol with the punching in of a phone number. And these Americans are nanny state Americans who ask what more they can get the government to do for them—all on our ticket, of course.

Bill O'Reilly is like a brilliant, but erratic, alcoholic relative that people begin to avoid.

He is dragging down his own reputation.
