Ice Cold Bunk
American Spectator ^ | 07 aug 07 | Patrick J. Michaels

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:03:42 AM PDT by rellimpank

Ten senators -- seven Democrats, two Republicans, and one independent -- have just returned with differing views from a tour of Greenland.

Bernie Sanders (I-VT) talked about the risk of Greenland's ice sheet "being lost." Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) said "melting Greenland ice would cause a 23-foot rise in sea levels worldwide." Bob Corker (R-TN) was more circumspect, saying only that "we're digging in to understand this issue."

Sanders' and Mikulski's statements are reminiscent of Al Gore's movie, An Inconvenient Truth, which contains a montage showing much of Florida disappearing as Greenland melts away. This wacko scenario has never enjoyed much respect from the broad scientific community, and newly published research casts even more doubt on it

The ice sheet can’t be lost. It’s right there (staring out into the ocean).

Does that idiot realize how much ice would have to melt to cause a 23 foot rise in sea levels?! Hahahahaha! What a maroon! 3-5 years from now, everyone will say: “Oh, I didn’t believe in that global warming bologna, I just said I did to go along”. It will be harder to find a GW proponent by then than it was to find a self-proclaimed Nazi in 1948 Germany!

When did these hand-shakers and baby-kissers become scientists? And a two-day trip to Greenland makes them experts?

(Alarmist global warming claims melt under scientific scrutiny)

(Global Warming debunked:)

Ten facts about global warming THEY don’t want you to know

1. Britain is one degree Celsius cooler now than it was at the time of the Domesday book.
2. Greenland got its name from the verdant pastures that attracted the Norse settlers under Eric the Red in 986. They carried on their normal way of life (based on cattle, grain, hay and herring) for 300 years until the Little Ice Age, when they were driven off by the encroaching ice and the Inuit took over. The ice and the Inuit are still there.
3. Carbon dioxide is a minor greenhouse gas. In the atmosphere there is over a hundred times the concentration of water vapour, which is the dominant greenhouse gas.
4. Without the Greenhouse Effect there would be no life on Earth.
5. Temperature measurements by satellite, radio sonde balloons and well maintained rural surface stations in the West show no significant warming.
6. The evidence of significant warming comes from surface stations that are probably affected by a variety of factors that contaminate the data.
7. Computer models of the climate are worthless, as they are based on many assumptions about interactions between climate factors that are still unknown to science. They are generally unstable and chaotic, giving a wide variety of answers depending on the input assumptions.
8. The Kyoto agreement would have a devastating effect on the world economy but, since carbon dioxide is a minor greenhouse gas, an undetectable effect on the climate.
9. The IPCC (the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) has been the main engine for promoting the global warming scare. It has become notorious for its corrupt practices of doctoring its reports and executive summaries, after they have been approved by the participating scientists, to conform to its political objectives.
10. The really big lie about man-made global warming is that almost all scientists accept it. More than 4,000 scientists from 106 countries, including 72 Nobel prize winners, signed the Heidelberg Appeal (1992), calling for a rational scientific approach to environmental problems. Many senior scientists have also supported The Statement by Atmospheric Scientists on Greenhouse Warming (1992), The Leipzig Declaration (1997) and finally the Oregon Petition (1998) which received the signatures of over 19,000 scientists.

I’ve also read that OBJECTIVE scientists looking at the historical record have found that increases in carbon dioxide have FOLLOWED increases in temperature. This negates the whole global warming premise.

It’s not the Demotraitors, it’s an “International” communist clique pressing for one world government. They have appointed themselves Protectors of the Environment and are willing to ruin economies and destroy billions of lives to obtain worldwide, centralized power on this very issue. Facts and scientific arguments concerning Man-made global warming do not matter because the whole issue is a red herring. This is merely the Camel’s nose in the tent. Al Gore must laugh himself to sleep each night.

They are wolves in sheep’s clothing, and they are incorrigible. It is too late to change them and too early to start hanging them.

Interglacial periods typically last about 10,000 years. We’re 10,500 years into the current one. The warming we are seeing is directly related to sunspot activity and the solar wind which mediates the amount of cloud-forming cosmic rays. Fewer cosmic rays hitting the atmosphere = fewer clouds = warmer temperatures. If the world had any sense, we would be preparing for the next glacial age which bring devastation beyond imagining for civilization.

Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) said "melting Greenland ice would cause a 23-foot rise in sea levels worldwide."

Mikulski is as dumb as she is ugly. To your list, I'd like to add the following:

If Greenland melted down completely, 88% of the excess water produced could be contained by flooding the uninhabited Qatarra Depression in northwest Egypt, producing thousands of miles of valuable lakefront property, generating electrical power as water flowed from the Medditerranean to the depression and potentially turning much of the surrounding Sahara Desert into arable land.

It took Greenland 18,000 years to accumulate as much ice as it has now. How long do you think it will take it to melt?

The math is on the link.

I have often wondered if every human being on Earth jumped into the ocean at the same time would there be enough displacement to notice a rise in the water level.

Steady. You are attacking one my state's senators. Ski's Looks, or lack of them, are her biggest asset (although her asset is also pretty big.) She is not threatening to other lady voters, or to Hillary.

And she's not real dumb, either. In fact she's easily just as intelligent as Barbara Boxer.

As far as "melting Greenland ice would cause a 23-foot rise in sea levels worldwide." she meant millimeters. An easy enough mistake to make. She is emotional, though. She realizes that Global Warming will harm women, children, and members of minority groups.

Also, you should realize that any increase in the height of sea levels would flood Baltimore's (Nancy Pelosi's father used to run the place, you know?)low-lying cemeteries, making voter registration very difficult.
