The original cost $25,000. The reborn DeLorean commands $57,000. Like Debbie Schlussel, I'd buy one if I could afford one. I think it was the coolest car of the 80s. Yep - the new one is also American-made.

How much extra for the gasoline/lightning hybrid version? I doubt that I can afford Mr. Fusion, but it would be nice to save gas money during a thunderstorm.

I liked the DeLorean, the PRV engine is still a good motor, had two Peugeot 505s with the V6, was a strong performer.

Using new old stock bothers me a bit. Ok for sheet metal and hard parts if they were stored correctly, but some other parts could be problematic.

But does that make them “new”?

The design is a bit dated also.

... and it was very cool.

Well, it looked cool. As sports cars go, it was a dog. It had 2 major flaws; overweight & underpowered.

That said, I wish this new endeavour good luck.

So you buy a warehouse full of old car parts because it’s such a great deal...then you start thinking “I wonder if I assemble these parts if I can sell cars *and* parts to the public?!”

The Delorean’s time has come and (thankfully) gone.
It was more of a technology testbed than a reliable, capable production vehicle.

The technology has long been superceded and the looks have faded rather ungracefully.

How are they going to make a profit selling two $57,000 cars per month? 114k per month sounds like a lot until you factor in parts, labor, rent, insurance, warranty costs....

It’s either a hobby or a financial disaster.

Years ago when visiting NASA in Houston there was a DeLorean in the parking lot with license plates that read “SPCMAN” or something close.

My kids were thrilled to see the BTTF car.

What engine was in this car? What horsepower? The car would look different than most other cars on the street but it would be sad to see a stock Subaru WRX blow it away at a streetlight...

Great car/potential!!!!!

What a shame!

Any car today is a three—legged horse; what with them being stamped out with nothing in mind but $$$, gubmint restrictions, environmental (non-existent) considerations, and of course, again, $$$!!!!!

Shame, shame, shame...

"Hard to fit the car in a two-car garage next to another car and still to be able to open the doors, though."

Absolutely false:

the doors of a DeLorean or for that matter any other gull-wing doors pivoting near the center of the car, swing upward, not outward as they open.

That, in fact, is the whole point of having gull-wing doors - the fact that very little clearance is required to an adjacent vehicle.

Years ago, I knew a wheeler-dealer guy who owned 2 of them that he got from a bankrupt dealer. He asked me if I wanted to buy one, and I laughed at him. I’ve always wondered what would have happened if I’d said yes.

The original was a cool looking hunk of crap. Of course most cars in 1982 stunk.
