School suspends boy for sketching gun

Chandler school officials have suspended a 13-year-old boy for sketching a picture that resembled a gun, saying it posed a threat to classmates.

But parents of the Payne Junior High School student said the drawing was a harmless doodle of a fake laser, and school officials overreacted.

"I just can't believe that there wasn't another way to resolve this," said Paula Mosteller, the boy's mother. "He's so upset. The school made him feel like he committed a crime. They are doing more damage than good."

The Mostellers said the drawing did not show blood, bullets, injuries, or target any human. They said it was just a drawing that resembled a gun.

But Payne Junior High administrators thought the sketch was enough of a threat and gave the boy a five-day suspension, later reduced to three days.

I used to draw all that stuff. I had (have) a talent for it. But it was just doodling to me. And I'm sure it was for this kid.

I'll be 64 in three weeks. I'm not an old fart. At 45, neither are you. So, the answer must be: The World's really, really screwed up.

On the bright side though, I just recently gave most of my guns to a 10 year old who has become an avid pheasant hunter along with his dad & mom. So there's some hope out there.

As many people as possible, in this school, either need to stand up to these teachers or pull their kids out and put them in private schools. Schools rely on money from kids attending that school. Take that money away from them and teachers will loose their jobs. Keep doing this until they get the picture that the public won’t put up with their liberal ideas.

I’m 26 and when I was in the 6th grade, they were really ramping up this “weapons in the schools” cr*p. I remember after some moronic announcement, I stood up and said “I could use my pencil as a weapon, does that mean you should take that away?!!” I think I was almost suspended for that... That would’ve been about... 1992 I think.

Oooohh, that drawing is really inflammatory stuff, it triggered a previously latent urge in me to open fire on my neighbor just by seeing it.

No wonder the boy was severely chastised, his aroused classmates are probably marching on the school with loaded AK-47s in hand and mayhem in mind even as I type.

Wonder what he would have gotten for one of our old "Rat Fink" drawings that we used to pass back and forth on the back rows . . . . usually the dragsters had at least five machine guns mounted on the fenders, with the usual bug-eyed tongue-dragging RF at the wheel . . . .

These people have no business teaching anyone anything. They are dolts that can't handle reality.
