The GOP has 22 seats to defend, the democrats 12. Unless conservative candidates find a backbone quickly, stand up forcefully on the issues, it is not looking good. I’m watching the Collins, Allen race in maine closely and I believe he’s got a good chance to defeat her. Not a pleasant thought at dinner time.
Well some would say good, Collins is a RINO so she should be defeated. Then you can have a Democrat and they can have a filibuster-proof Senate. But look on the bright side, we can polish our principles while we hand over our paychecks. ;-)
Have you seen any of the polls? Collins is up by 20 points in them. The only reason why things might not be looking good is the negativity and doom and gloom many on here predict.
This state is becoming more and more, socialist in nature. The left wing candidates for Governor got 60% of the vote last year. Collins is popular, but it all comes down to the presidential race. If Hillary wins by 10 or more points Allen could win.
I think Collins is a Rino. She has however voted for tax cuts, and against the amnesty bill. If She and other republicans would use the illegal immigration issue to their advantage, 2008 could be a year the GOP picks up seats in the congress and maintains the White House. But this is not happening. If we allow Hillary to set the debate and the agenda, she’ll be our next president.
Collins won’t lose this seat. She’s incredibly popular and matches Maine’s politics well.
JoHanns is good. Daub is good (if less politically ‘fresh & appealing’ ...). Bruning seems a bit of a poseur.
Still, any of the three would be a better Nebraska Senator than Bob “Manhattan” Kerry.
One correction, “gaining” 7 seats back ( I have no idea what “faining” means).
Why is the GOP pulling out the stops in New Brunswick? I'm pretty sure New Brunswick is a province of Canada.
I'd much rather see the GOP pull out all the stops in Nebraska (NE).
She’s actually more conservative than the state. Allen would not give up his safe congressional seat unless he believed he could defeat her. He’s counting on a huge win by Hillary to carry him over the top. It could be as close as the Allen-Webb or Burns-Tester races.
I’m not originally from Maine. I’ve been here for about 15 years and have seen it fall hopelessly into ruin. We’re over-taxed, and people elect representatives to state offices that raise taxes. Our economy is a mess, and more welfare programs are the solution. Collins wins because she’s a woman, and she is very likable. A real good person. However if the election in ‘08 becomes issue oriented, Hillary fires up the liberal majority here, Allen has a legit chance of winning.
I think we will win the Presidency but get crushed in the Senate races. We’re looking at gridlock.
If I’m healthy I plan to work on Collins’ campaign. We must do our best to prevent hillary and her allies from destroying this nation.
Perhaps I am too negative. But I’ve watched the lies of the left become the truth over the years. And we only have 14 months to convince the 40% of clueless moderate voters that conservatism works and liberalism is a mortal sin. We do not need any new tone speak, or compassionate conservatism crap. We need to be on the offensive and set the agenda. This is where leadership comes in.
Giuliani is coming to Maine I believe next week. I’d like to go and talk to him, ask him some questions, in particular on immigration. If I get close to him is there anything you or folks here would like me to ask him?
Oregon - Democrats have not recruited a top tier candidate to face off against Smith. Leans Republican
New Mexico - The attorney “scandal” has died down and Democrats have not found a first rate challenger. Domenici should be safe. Leans Republican.
Nebraska - With Johannas in the race, even if Bob Kerry runs, I think Republicans have the advantage. Leans Republican.
Alaska - As long as their is no indictment against Stevens, this seat is safe. Safe Republican.
New Hampshire - The polls that show Sununu down 20 points are probably outliers. Two recent polls shown him down about 5 points. Still, this seat is in trouble. Leans Democrat.
Virginia - Unfortunately, this seat is lost. Likely Democrat.
Minnesota - This is going to be a close race, but if the Democratic nominee is Franken, I think Coleman will win. Leans Republican.
Maine - Collins is very popular. As long as Iraq does not go back into the dumps (a big if), Collins should be safe. Leans Republican.
North Carolina - Any vulnerability of Dole is probably of no concern as the Democrats have not found a top notch candidate to face her. Safe Republican.
Colorado - This race is close. Democrats probably lead right now, but I still think this is a toss up. Toss up.
Even if we say Colorado leans Democrat, right now I think we are looking at -3 at worst. Obviously, things could get a lot worse or a lot better between now and the election. And it is troublesome that we have 7+ seats that can go either way. Still, I stand by my prediction that we lose -3 at worst.
The GOP has got to suffer a near death experience, and the Dems have got screw things up royal before the Republicans will be back in control of anything. Fortunately, that will probably happen in the next 4 years.
Democrats will just allow amnesty for illegal immigrants to occur “to the max” including allowing illegals here to vote throughout the U.S. The end result of this is that both the Republican Party and conservatism could never match up to the continuous waves of new illegals who vote, and both the Republican Party and conservatism will eventually die. Illegals who vote here will vote overwhelmingly for “far leftist politicians” each and every time and at each and every political level!
A Hillary win means a lot of horrible things. 20 million illegals, as well as convicted felons will have the right to vote. Which means she’s in for at least 8 years. If she gets to appoint a couple of supreme court justices that believe they have a God given right to shred the Constitution and make law, she might be president forever.
In all seriousness, if Hillary becomes president, Al-Qaeda and the islamic terrorists will hit us again. And again and again. She must be defeated and we the base, have to keep the pressure on our leaders and drag them to victory somehow.
