Fred Thompson hit a homerun in his speech to the NRA! In response to a question after his remarks, Fred said he believed the 2nd Amendment meant the same thing in New York City as it does in Tennessee. He further added that it is more than a coincidence that the places with the highest crime rates often have the most restrictions on gun rights.
He also said during his speech, about his wife, Jeri, "I don't know, but i think Jeri would make a much better First Lady than Bill Clinton!" The NRA crowd loved it!
Fred's position on the 2nd Amendment is in obvious contrast to Rudy Giuliani, who will speak to the NRA shortly. It will be interesting to see how Giuliani tries to defend his past positions on gun control and his statements on the NRA, as evidenced in these clips.........

No less than Bill Clinton credited NRA with the defeat of Algore’s campaign. The groups you mention are all fine but you’ll find that the NRA does the heavy lifting for the RKBA.

And since when does Thompson care about the 2nd amendment, or even the Constitution? It seems like something he just now started talking about since hes decided he wants the GOP nomination.Have you followed any part of his senate career or noted that he was the lone holdout vote in one (in)famous gun control bill, which restricted fire arms near school?
His record, on strict gun control issues (not side or by issues that are not directly linked to guns) is very good.

Now THAT’S a first lady I could stand seeing in the news everyday!
If we’re to judge a Presidential candidate by the caliber spouse they’ve been able to snag ...
Fred Thompson A+,
G.W. Bush A+,
Bill Clinton F-,
Hillary Clinton D (Bill might be a fun guy to watch a ballgame with at Hooters),
Dennis Kucinich A (how this elf landed that broad, I’ll never understand)
I’m not knowledgeable about Mrs. Giuliani, Mrs. Paul, Mrs. Romney, or any of the other Democrats wives to give a grade.

"The NRA is no longer the nations standard bearer for preserving the right to bear arms."
Ain't that the truth. They've been a huge disappointment in recent years.
"Lets see how well Thompson is received by a pro-2nd amendment group like the Gun Owners of America or..."
I think the GOA is leaning toward supporting Ron Paul, or so I've read. Don't know about the Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership.
In any case, aside from McCain/Feingold (even he knows he messed up big time when he voted for CFR), I don't see anything in Thompson's record that leads me to believe he's the least bit hostile toward the 2nd Amendment or the Constitution in general. But if you know of anything to the contrary, by all means post it or point me to it. While I am leaning toward Thompson at the moment, I not 100% committed to anyone.

Dennis Kucinich A (how this elf landed that broad, Ill never understand) Knock her down to a "B because she obviously lacks personal judgment. Besides, she's British, and while we love 'em to death, they do tend to be a bit odd.

I think the GOA is leaning toward supporting Ron Paul
And that right there sums up why the GOA does not have the political clout of the NRA and wil lnot play a serious role in the nomination and general election despite the fact that it's views are more conservative and more protective of the 2nd Amendment.
