The Swift Boating of Graham Frost (FR Mentioned; TV Networks Stalking Frosts)
Time Magazine ^ | Thursday, October 11, 2007 | Karen Tumulty

Posted on 10/11/2007 6:04:41 AM PDT by kristinn

Since then, Frost and his family have been introduced first-hand to something else that most kids his age haven't: the reality of how brutal partisan politics can be in the Internet age. It started over the weekend, when a blogger calling himself Icwhatudo put up a post on the conservative website Freerepublic.com noting what he had found by scavenging around the internet: that Graeme attends a private school, lives in a remodeled house near one that had sold for $485,000 in March and is the child of parents whose wedding was announced in the New York Times. The post also noted that his father purchased a $160,000 commercial space in 1999.

And while they are still uninsured, they claim it is most certainly not by choice. Bonnie Frost says the last time she priced health coverage, she learned it would cost them $1,200 a month.

In short, just as the radio spot claimed, the Frosts are precisely the kind of people that the SCHIP program was intended to help.

While the family continues to support the vetoed bill that would expand the program to 4 million more children, they are hoping to remove themselves from the middle of the storm. After giving a few interviews, Halsey and Bonnie Frost now say they don't want to say anything more, though network camera crews have planted themselves in front of their house.

Politics has never been a gentle game. As far back as 1895, satirist Finley Peter Dunne's fictional saloonkeeper Martin Dooley observed that women, children and prohibitionists would do well to stay out of it, because "politics ain't beanbag." But surely, even Mr. Dooley could never have imagined a day would come when a mere seventh grader could be swift-boated.

Was this program intended to bail out middle class families that don’t want to spend money on health care?

Of course. When a family would rather buy a new Mercedes, flat-screen TV, or party hard than pay for their own family's health care, then certainly the Democrats should enable government to forcibly extract the health care money from other citizens. That is the Socialist way. </sarcasm>

How do you know the Frosts are “long time liberals”? I’m not doubting they are...just how do you know they are? Except for taking OUR money to pay for THEIR kids healthcare, that is.

No, I don’t trust them to tell the truth. I trust them to look out for their own agenda, by being careful not say things that will quickly backfire on them, on a topic that is current under very close scrutiny. If the information was of a type that one could expect them to quickly produce hard evidence on, I’d be very suspicious if the evidence wasn’t provided. However, they are not at liberty to publicize details of the family’s bank records, and cannot force the school to release a type of documentation that is almost certainly subject to written confidentiality agreements, and that schools don’t normally release for any reason unless they get a subpoena for it.

And I am not confident that the tuition-related info coming out of Reid’s office is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth — just confident that the family was not paying the cash sticker price for their kids to attend the school. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if there are some relevant side arrangements (e.g. perhaps the grandparents have done some sort of deferred giving arrangement to the school, and this was a significant factor in the kids being awarded a substantial financial aid package).

IF the grandparents are giving the school money and then the school “gives” a scholarship to the kids, is that Kosher with the IRS since the donation from the GPs would be Tax Deductible.

I read it somewhere. Think I saw it on TV too. One of the kids is severely handicapped so it stands to reason that they would have to retrofit the house for her.

This is a loosing battle for Freepers. IMO it’s best to just leave it alone.

The property that sold for $485,000 on Collington is assessed for roughly $370,000 as of 7/1/2007. There are lots of properties on that street where the assessments are nowhere near the market value. Baltimore City assessments are way off, just like DC.

Here’s a good place to do some research.

All the credibility you had gained for your arguement was completely shot to hell by this posting. Are you seriously as niave as this post reads? As if the MSM would hold a Reid to the same standard as the do any Republican.

First of all, it’s Baltimore City, not Baltimore County, and secondly, the assessments don’t equal market value.

Read my previous post with a link to recorded sales and tax assessments for accurate info.

It’s as simple as this......the Frosts COULD have bought Health Insurance for their kids, yet they CHOSE NOT to and instead have their neighbors and strangers paying for their kid’s health care.....that’s it in a nutshell.

"How do you know the Frosts are “long time liberals”? I’m not doubting they are...just how do you know they are? Except for taking OUR money to pay for THEIR kids healthcare, that is."

1) Michelle Malkin pointed out that they have a "1-20-09" bumpersticker on their NEW car. 2) They were "picked" by FamiliesUSA a leftist group 3)They made an ad for liberal senators, and were coached by liberal senator's staffs. They also appeared in photo-ops with liberal senators. 4) In the ad they didn't just stick to the scipt of how important the SCHIP program is, they got in a final dig at Bush and Iraq. Maybe I shouldn't have written the qualifier "longtime", but it's very difficult to believe that these were long time republican voters who all of a sudden agree to be props in a DNC ad.

Nobody is “attacking the Frosts”. They are the ones who started this. They are the ones who attacked Bush, the Iraq war, and the republicans for “not caring”. They put themselves out there as an example of how cruel the GOP is that they won’t expand SCHIP because “the future is here, not in Iraq”. The Frosts made it political when they agreed to be the sock puppets for democrat talking points.

I'm going to give you the GovernmentShrinker response to you: How dare you point that out. It just makes republicans look bad when you attack the Frosts. I called Harry Reid's office and his staff assured me that the tattoos normally cost 300 dollars, but Mrs. Frost only paid 20 for them. Reid's staff mentioned that working families just can't get the help they need when deciding between tattoos and buying insurance for their children.

Oh, ok. Thanks anyway, Dem.

Actually, I'm really glad all this come out as I now know much more about the program and have a better understanding as to why the president vetoed it.

You may want to see this:

The commercial building is close to 6,400 sq. ft. and was bought in 1999 for $160,000. According to the records, it is still being assessed at $160,000.

I’m not sure if there is a renter, but it was mentioned on previous threads that a portion of the building is being rented to a tenant.

I find it morally reprehensible for parents to allow their 12 year old child to be used as a prop for a partisan attack by a political party.
