The Malibu Presbyterian Church is on fire. The Malibu Castle is completely engulfed in flames, and the Hughes think tank is on fire.
Pepperdine students are being told to immediately gather in the auditorium.

Wow, is this the first thread on this? I am slow to get to the topic, only learned of this 8:20 this a.m.
Sure reminds me of 1993.

One mile west of Pepperdine, eh?
And I thought only the Cuyahoga caught on fire! Whod’a thunk the Pacific ocean could too?
Do the writers for the LA Times ghost write from Cleveland?

KNBC live pictures of a
Castle Kashan, built in the 1970's in Malibu, used as a charity/fundraising locale mostly. It's full of Elvis and other popular culture memorabilia. It's burning to the ground.

I will explain it to you since your knee jerk self riotousness blinds you to the painfully obvious. Many of these people are fashionable greens. Not quite so much fun for them to actually bear the consequences of their Green dogmas. Proper conservation techniques would prevent these sort of disasters but because of their rabid Green dogmas, they prevent anything that might spoil their "pristine" environment. Kind of a case of their chickens coming home to roost.

Actions have consequences. Maybe next time people there will think about some of the long term consequences of their actions.

Let’s see, build with wood and do not allow the brush to be cut back because it’s not natural if you do and letting goats eat the brush just looks so tacky. Now it’s time to scream about how the government should have done something and file some law suits.

There is a difference between compassion for people caught in a tragedy and enabling people for their dysfunctional behavior. Unfortunately too many Americans confuse the latter for the former.

I was in one of those Malibu firestorms once. It is frightening. While structures have been lost before, I think we've always been lucky that no lives have been lost in the Malibu fires (isn't that true?). I hope and pray that will be the case this time as well.
I hope they protect the University as well (a lot of great conservative minds there at the law school - Ken Starr, Doug Kmiec etc.).

A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said. I'm sorry. I did realize this sort of local problem now is considered a national disaster by the hand wringing brigade.

Updates from LA Times....
Fire cuts swath through Malibu Hills
*******************EXCERPT********************
Brian Vander Brug / Los Angeles Times Malibu resident Jim Palmer covers his face from the wind-driven smoke from the Canyon Fire in Malibu Canyon this morning.
***********
Low humidity and gusts of up to 50 mph drove the fire, sending embers flying, Los Angeles County Fire Chief P. Michael Freeman. The fire will likely threaten thousands of homes over the next several days, he said.
By noon Sunday, the blaze had burned 1,000 acres, destroying three homes and two commercial buildings but had not caused any injuries. Nine other homes were damaged and four businesses in the Colony Creek shopping center were damaged.
"The wind is a fairly tremendous challenge to the firefighters," Freeman said. "They're working gallantly on the lines trying to protect the structures."
He said the fire was moving east toward the Carbon Canyon area.
